The gyre is a Hygger 12v, the smallest they have. I started running it at 5%, which almost seemed too much. Now that there are more corals breaking up flow and a Nem guard on it, I can run it at 25% on random, and it works pretty well for the gorgs and LPS. Only complaint with gyres is how often you have to clean them to keep them running.

Lid is a D-D diy screen lid with cutout for the plank. It's temporary until the polycarb lid from Etsy (PropLidz or something) arrives.
Ah I see.. trying to figure out which pump to use on my kids school tank (same wb peninsula)
I got a polycarb lid from Etsy but it keeps getting condensation all under it and is looking just ugly, might have to do a diy one instead

My lid for the 83 was also polycarb. After losing a wrasse and a yasha *through* the mesh, I decided hard top only. Double edged sword, though. Keeps fish in and the condensation prevents salt creep, but makes top down viewing impossible.

Looking good bro.
Thanks!

Not much to report this week. It's been a MD appt/auto repair appt kind of week, so not much tank action happening.

I'm planning a few purchases though: 1) a wall mount cabinet from IKEA to put the controller board and such; 2) some computer fans to circulate air through that cabinet; 3) maaaaybe some coral (??)

Also pending: 1) transfer the Helio heater from defunct 83g to 25g; 2) Move the phyto fridge and chiller next to the desk/tank (set up chiller before the hot weekend); 3) add the Drop 1.2 algae scrubber to the middle chamber; 4) switch the stock return with the new Hygger return pump + RFGs.

Lots to do!

First fragging in the new tank. Glad the surviving and new zoas are doing well. These are destined for a thermos shipping swap, so we'll see if I can get them colony sized for shipping! Chase is grim reapers, stratospheres, and maybe fairy farts. The major chase is godbeasts, but I might have to find some better frags for trade!

New corals update!

Went by @Dooly 's and Calikid yesteday. Most exciting, I picked up two new scolys, a bleeding apple and a UFO!

Also note, the symphilia from the group buy is starting to get some colors!

Also picked up a couple of tester sticks (thanks, Jason!). TGC Creamsickle:

And an ARC Master Yoda

Both next to the clam:

Pipefish always trying to photobomb my coral shots...

Neptune bounce in focus (not new coral, just FINALLY growing a bit):

Calikid Acans off to a rough start, but hopefully will fluff out and regain some flesh:

Starting to build up a nice little acan garden:

Out of focus angry shroom (post-dip):

Also angry post-dip yuma:

I'm a bit disappointed about the grey pattern, because it looked much darker, nearly black, in the auction photos. I will watch it a bit as the spectrum changes from morning blues to daytime whites to see if it looks different. Oh well, that's why I like seeing corals in person more than buying online!

Cool tank. Nanos are cool due to the fact you can really focus on some of the smaller life and all the cool little interactions

Nice! I love that tunicate!
Yeah, when that first arrived, I was freaking out about it potentially being flatworm eggs or something. One of the R2R IDing gurus confirmed it as a tunicate so I left it alone and it seems to be surviving OK. Any and all filter feeders welcome in my tank!

When I got Aussie and Solomon rock, it came with a lot of colonial tunicates and before I knew it, they were everywhere. They thrived for quite some time. I still have some in my son's tank and spotted a few on the new Fiji that picked up. My underside of the internal overflow box was covered in them, it was so cool.

Bit of a hiccup since getting back to the office this week. Lots of GHA showing up (think it was from overfeeding frozen while I was gone). Then the chiller started acting all weird and not chilling. I think it was just a clog in the chiller pump from GHA, but I figured time to act fast and swap out with the new chiller I've been meaning to do. But that also means activating the life support upgrade I've been putting off...

  • SO, out with the old filing cabinet and the big azz 1/3hp chiller.
  • Unplugged all Controllers and devices and just left the gyre and the light plugged in.
  • Cleaned out the back chamber and scraped off some Aiptasia.
  • Had to set up a stand for the chiller pump and also a place for the Drop algae scrubber. This ought to do:

  • Stand didn't fit in the chamber by a couple mm, so had to cut it down further. It works, generally, now.
  • Had to go home, so left everything basically running without Hydros control.
  • Mess was a bit noticeable this morning...
  • New 20g JBJ chiller is super cute, though!

Next up:
  • Make the new controller cabinet
  • Drill vent holes in cabinet
  • Bolt in power strips in cabinet
  • Hang cabinet on wall
  • Bolt controllers onto pegboard grid (controller board)
  • Insert controller board into cabinet
  • Install cable raceways on wall
  • Unplug everything and replug it
  • Run all cables through raceway to tank/equipment
  • Mount the air pump and connect to scrubber; turn on scrubber
  • Maybe add a heating element....
  • Admire the beauty of my creation
Oh, I should also probably clean my pumps and the Plank...

Neat, didn't know they made chillers that small!
Very new. They don't use a compressor, it's all "thermoelectric", which means to me that it's highly energy inefficient, BUT, this is JBJ, so I'm hoping they did enough testing to ensure some longevity. Either way, that 1/3hp was way too big for the 25g tank. And too loud.

LOL. I think I put a 1/3 hp chiller on my 250. Mine is probably undersized, but yours is significantly oversized.

So far, holding temp steady! This weekend was a lot cooler, though, so real test will be over a hot weekend when the A/C is off in the office and the warehouse starts heating up.

P.s., a lot of work went down on Friday!

I didn't like the power strips in the back of the wall cabinet, behind the controller pegboard. Figured it would make things very hard to get to if I need to quickly unplug something. So screwed them into the side instead:

Better

Mounted it up on the wall.

Now to start working on the rat's nest.

Still a rats nest when you open the cabinet, but I think the cable raceways on the wall really help!

Now to turn everything on again.

Almost done. Added the air pump and the algae scrubber on Monday, and now we're rocking. Unfortunately, looks like I lost an Acro during all of this. Maybe didn't like all the time with no flow or light.
