So always told bigger is better bought return pump many yrs ago before controllable was an option
Wanna plumb 187 gallon with a manifold for chiller, uv and reactor and maybe like a water change valve.
Bought a fluval sp6 rated at 3434 gph
Can this work with a valve ?

Depending on head pressure and various turns going thru all those equipment, I suspect you’ll be around 1000gph or less. Can you split this up? Absolutely. However, I would just get a second pump for redundancy and get more flow, esp it’s a large tank.

I’ve split mine as well but have 2 pumps. Good luck with your plumbing!

Depending on what you’re trying to keep. What are you using inside the tank? For me, the return pump is important for life support but equally important is inside the tank.

So like 2 these at 3k+ gph?
I thought was way 2 big then decided manifold. I have had only magdrives and occasional propeller ceramic shaft snaps but usually on restart from feeding and had backup on hand after 1st snap

Currently, I have 2 Red Dragon Eco 130w return pumps, feeding reactors and UVs. Inside the tank, there are 4 MP60s — tank is a 450gal.

This is the whole setup of the fish room. The frag tank is not attached to the main tank though. You can read my build thread on R2R.

Velvet took out almost all fish except 4. Totally devastated - lost a lot of larger, prized fish!!! I’ve been slowly restocking.

I have the sp6 as the dedicated return pump on my 220 gallon system. I use a second pump to power my manifold/external skimmer and also have that second pump setup as a backup if the main pump were to fail. I believe the sp6 kinda auto adjusts itself to pressure/flow restrictions so it would probably be a pain running it as a combo for return and manifold. Overall a good pump with plenty of flow though. Going 3 years strong with yearly maintenance/cleaning. It does have a slight hum but when pushing that much water it’s not anything I can’t live with. Here’s a couple pics!
