tank is doing wellish. corals seem fine for the most part, some growing well, some just hanging out, a couple just kinda deciding life isn't for them i guess, including my yellow diabolic pacman who tanked the metals fine, and now is like no copper well i'll just die back. i think my plan to add more light is going to be key, just seems like stuff could use some more par especially ones in areas not directly under or near the radions

i did lose my copperband somehow. i had her for almost 2 years and it was totally out of the blue. ate fine the day before, then the next day i fed and noticed i didn't see her, just dead in the back of the rocks. freaking sucks. she was my favorite fish and so personable for a fish, but i also lost my cat of almost 18 years prior to that so it was hard to get too worked up over the fish. aiptasia is already coming out. idk how i do it, but i grow aiptasia like nobodies business

to that end, i picked up a couple fish. a starcki damsel from shane and a pearlscale butterfly from reef lounge. both fish are uronema risks, but the starcki has been in a tank so he should be good and the pearlscale was a direct import and has been at reef lounge awhile, so hopefully it won't be an issue. i'll continue httm on them in the next couple weeks. i fed a LRS combo mix and they both went to town

whether a pearlscale is going to be reef safe is another question. i don't mind nipping, obviously, but i don't think i can allow just straight up destroying the corals. but for now it should be a solid fix. i'm going to try to avoid getting another copperband because even if it eats well, pellets are likely never on the menu. and i will say that makes it so much easier going on vacation just an auto feeder and i should be good to go. i will still feed frozen frequently as i think it's best for fish health, but it's nice to not have that crutch. the rest of the fish all eat pellets of some variety

i don't get what the hell with the copperband. i don't see any sign disease is present in the tank. she had some solid girth to her. i don't keep tangs solely so she wouldn’t get beat up, nobody else in the tank ever bothered her. frustrating, but what can u do

I also traded out my nano nem tank for some frags. I put them in my coral qt tank/invert qt tank which is currently invertless. And who knew but I took the cuc out like a month ago and it’s a mess now, galaxy brain level stuff by me. Me being too cheap to pay $6 for trochus snails at pet world has consequences 😂

so anyway I was able to remove the frags from the plugs so I can expedite coral qt hopefully, at least as the theory goes. Ideally I’d leave them in there a couple weeks but that tank makes me uneasy with some cool stuff I’d like to see not dead

I do wonder if hairy acros are a bad idea with my fish, they just seem to not do well when they’re naturally hairy. So we’ll see how the Millis do. Shaggy stag and bleeding tree from bc both did bad, solar flare milli did bad, orange passion hated my tank.. but Walt Disney seems fine, so we’ll see I guess

The tank is looking really good man, next 4-6 months will be fun to watch.

Sorry to hear about the fish and cat that’s a real bummer.

thanks man, she was such a great cat. she'd greet me at the door whenever i came home, always on me or near me when i was home

hard to realize what you're missing until it's gone

Nice I just picked up a RR firecracker myself. Waiting for it to color up a bit but looks like it'll be a cool piece. I've been looking at that fruity pebbles piece too. Nice list man!

Sorry to hear about the cat, thats a bummer but 18 is a damn good run! Beautiful markings too.
Oh yea, the CBB too! Sorry, I'm a little calloused over here in the CBB loss department :) All jokes aside, that sucks. That is one of the fish that got me into the saltwater side of things. Absolutely love them but one of the most frustrating fish for me. Hopefully that new butterfly behaves itself for you. Those scale outlines are badass.

yeah I suppose I got lucky to go 1 for 1 in the copperband department lol. I had heard of losses like this, eating fine then up and dead one day, but once I got over the one year mark I figured I’d be good to go for a long time, so weird

firecracker was always one of those I loved but rarely saw locally and I just avoid the high end online stuff, but I’m psyched to have it. I’m going to move it over today since I have to do a water change for ttm water

Httm is seemingly going well on the fish in that they’re both still alive which is a plus, one more transfer tomorrow and then they’re good

frags are mostly doing well, I think I glued them in poorly. The idea was to angle them leaning backwards to absorb the light, but I didn’t lean them back enough lol, oh well.. led bar should help on that front when I get around to that

3538909B-C191-45A1-BB1A-1B8D8F388A7C.jpeg

firecracker is doing a green thing and I may or may not have used too much glue. My bottle is nearing the end and the stem is just a mess now lol

4045ECD6-1522-4158-AD0B-2E83AD7D0C2A.jpeg

fruity pebbles looks good but no reds really yet. My tank seems to not like reds off the bat. I got a Garrett’s acropolis muppets at the last cfm and it took a month or two to redden up
AA94B6C1-5650-4C61-88E0-9651E078D356.jpeg

And the rainbow blossom is probably my worst offender in the aforementioned leaning thing. It’s in front of the lights, yet fairly straight up

the twisted sister and rouge milli both don’t look good, idk if they’re just stressed or what, but I can’t say they’re blowing me away lol

the rose milli looks good, I wonder if Millis are a good idea in my tank with the nippers. Half of the fun of Millis is the pe which I get little of. I do notice the larger frags or mini colonies or whatever do toss the polyps out more during the day, so perhaps I can both have the cake and eat it too

that middle thing is interesting, it’s the remnants of my space invader pectinia I got like a year ago. The metals mostly killed it off, then the turf algae covered the skeleton, but now it’s making a comeback. Pretty cool

Super vexing things in my tank lately. I lost the copperband about a month ago just out of the blue, fine one day dead the next. I also lost one of the kamohara blennies earlier in the year, almost like it just slowed down. It’d sit on the sand sometimes etc, then lately kamohara #2 did the same thing and disappeared a couple weeks ago

but then a couple days I just find my freaking flame wrasse just face into Rick during the evening. Gave him a freshwater bath but he was done. His body just looks totally fine, nothing came off during the freshwater bath, so confusing and frustrating.
9DBDFA34-7098-4F35-816A-C0DB97F921FF.jpeg

being a now unobtainable flame wrasse, quite a bummer

I ordered one of those aquabiomis dna things, so I guess we’ll see if that even works. Jake Adams on reefbum threw water on how legit the test is. I see no visible parasites or parasite like behaviors, no scratching, no pale colors, no pinched stomachs, etc.

Not that I want any of my fish to die, but if there were a list of fish I didn’t want to lose.. copperband and flame wrasse would’ve been at the top of the list.

beyond the fish issues the tank seems to be doing well

Added the fish today

the plan was just the butterfly, but he done jumped out of the colander right into the tank avoiding my acclimation box, so he scored a couple hours of flame angel hazing. They seem cool now, the angel respects the dorsal spines

so with the box going unused, I tossed the damsel in too

i let the damsel out yesterday, everyone seems to be settled in well. although the blackcap basslet doesn't like the starcki. blackcap towers over the starcki so i'm not too worried

this twitter fish lady happened to release a video about damsels the same day that was pretty funny

early returns on the pearlscale is he's definitely not reef safe. i never really figured he would be, but i'm curious to find if he's any worse than a dwarf angel or just straight up incompatible with corals. i have even less PE now, but everything seems fine. he seems to give things a smooch and move on, he's an active character and always on the hunt for stuff in the rocks. between him and the heniochus they seem to munch some aiptasia, but not as good as the copperband was. that beak had some serious reach

The tank is really coming along and matured. I like that you have a lot of fish.
yeah I feel like it hit the mature button in the last few months, acros are mostly all enjoying life. I added a battlebox after Christmas and I only have like half of those left, but my latest haul from cfm + weelo + growout frag is hanging at no losses after a couple months

I do like me some fish 😃 I probably shouldn’t add more.. but another butterfly wouldn’t hurt.. or more fairy wrasses..

Tank didn’t die while I was gone which is nice

new growth is easier to see when you don’t see the tank for a week at least

only issues

I was doing some vermatid smashing before I left and accidentally broke the pc rainbow. I quickly reglued it but then was thinking maybe it would’ve been wise to move the big branch to the back of the tank since it’s a fast growing stag. It stayed in place until I got back, but then somebody broke it off again, not naming names but fatty mcfatiochus seems prime. So I glued it in the back where it can go hard in the paint
