Looks good bummer on the dinos. What’s your course of action going to be?

And Is that a Orchestral version of Otherside I hear in the back ground? Dig it!
i seem to beat them the same general way:

-add microbacter 7
-lots of phyto
-no water changes
-feed a bit more
-wait

lol, worst case i can do a blackout i suppose. and maybe someday i'll stop being stubborn and get a UV which would probably help

yeah haha, plus my cat demanding food :D

i let the flame angel go earlier today and he and the multicolor fought pretty good, but seems they've worked it out. now the flame is avoiding his old nemesis, my clownfish lol

dinos still hanging out and annoying some corals pretty badly, but i want to say they're getting a little less bad so maybe they'll go away soon.. hopefully

some of the colors are kinda meh, I haven’t done a water change in there in like a month and that’s really the only filtration on the tank lol but now the Dinos seem to be goneish so water change possibly tonight

got completely switched over to the xr15s and thought the tank was looking decent despite some residual dinos, so finally did a 1 year video. the tank was technically wet june 8 of last year

good times

for the dinos i have recently added:

-apex pods from reefnutrition, reefnutrition guy says they have seen apex pods consume dinos like tisbee pods, good enough evidence for me
-tons of phyto, i turn the tank cloudy green once per night
-aquabiomics reef rubble rock
-iron
-silicates (just added today)

i think it's gonna go away soon, i'm now seeing green biofilm on the glass, my ats is growing actual hair algae again, etc

tempted to add a bunch of frags from my coral qt, but i also don't really want to get glue on my person..

Damn, that's a lot of fish! Well done, they all are looking great.

I'm confused on the addition of silicates, I always thought that dinos fed off silicates?

lol thanks, yeah it's a bit much.. i was like mostly restocked and i was like damn this is already a lot. oh well

well that would be non-ideal, my understanding was silicates cause diatoms which outcompete the dinos, but who the hell knows lol. i just load up the shotgun and throw it at the tank and hope for the best. it's definitely getting better, but a good test was adding the frag rack which instantly loaded up on the brown slimy stuff. diatoms? dinos? idk, no more air bubbles, so that seems like a win, but the sand is pretty uggo by the end of the day

Hey they are all getting along and look healthy as hell. it's awesome you can pull it off I'm sure the QT stage helped there.

I haven't heard of that approach but I'll keep an eye out and see how it goes! I noticed my dinos were suffocating my GHA so I let it ride a little longer that I should but was lucky mine was a type easily outcompeted with nutrients. I'd keep an eye on that silicate dosing though I felt like I saw silica pop up in my ATI ICP test sample taken from my RO/DI and realized it was making it passed my stages. Since adding in silicabuster cartridges I really feel like I've seen an improvement in my tank's nuisance algae.

thanks! yeah i think with this many fish strict qt is the way to go, but who knows others don't qt anything and it works. surprisingly they get along really well, the flame and multicolor have a bit of a spat here and there, but are mostly fine and the chases are short and rare

yeah that's the bummer with silicates, no real way to test except ICP. or maybe there is a test? but lets be honest, i barely test anything other than alk, temp, and salinity. that said, i have an ICP ready to go and drop off tomorrow

i'll probably induce round 2 of algae wars :ROFLMAO: but at least this time i had the forethought to prepare with an actual algae eating fish. the first few months of my tank i kept waiting for a magnificent foxface and waiting and waiting and oh they're available, but $200

i wonder if the ATS kinda does this sometimes because it just eats up all of the iron, which makes for no algae in the DT, but total conjecture on that. it might be something i'll need to monitor going forward, or just add a bit of iron here and there

Very jealous of that CBB and orange back fairy. Also the beer choices, I went Miller lite and it’s a can full of buyers remorse ;)

I saw a gorgeous fat CBB yesterday but im worried he’d get beat to hell in my tank. He wouldn’t eat so that sealed the deal but man it was gorgeous. Tank is looking great!

thanks guys

i'm super fortunate on the copperband, i didn't do anything to get it eating. i went up to deven's house one day to buy the potters angel and he had the copperband and the burgess butterfly both just mowing down food. i was like... how much for those tho :D ended up getting all 3 eventually, unfortunately the burgess succumbed to the velvet, but it helped drive home how much i prefer butterflies over all other fish. i had a biota milletseed butterfly for a hot minute, but it got velveted to death too before i really started qting stuff. that fish was really cool too, butterflies, once they know you, are all so damn personable

i somehow skipped the bud light/coors/miller realm of beers. i'm glad, but i'm also jealous when i'm standing there checking out for $70 for like 15 beers and some other guy rolls up with a 30 pack of a macro beer and checks out for $20 :ROFLMAO:

They really are cool fish. I want to get one in the next setup, or this one if I can figure out a good way about it. Maybe with another 2 small tangs to disperse the beating.

I did too. I had a neighbor when I first moved out who worked for Rogue brewing. They had some great IPAs. Then Stone was my go to. Right now, I really like most of the Pizza Port brewing IPAs and sessions. For days like tomorrow I treat it like the river and go lite beer.

my worst beer mistake ever: taking a port brewing board meeting (coffee porter) to lake havasu and drinking it at like 2 pm when it was 120 degrees  i picked up for tomorrow: bell's oberon ale, mother earth cali creamin (my sister loves cream ales and ballast point stopped making calm before the storm), kern river mango wheat ale, alesmith sublime, and some hazy ipas which seem to be the replacement for session ipas

i just go no tangs and it's great :D foxface ftw! although i have a total lack of algae right now so we'll see if i'm changing my tune a few months from now. hopefully robust cuc + foxface will suffice for any algae explosions

my coral qt has run into some issues lately

my ato up and broke, which sucks. although breaking last week for me to see and not next week when i'm on vacation is preferable

i also have just lost several frags to run of the mill dead acro unknown cause. i saw a couple stn, but didn't really do anything as i just have never had success saving them from that. then i noticed several were doing it and someone mentioned maybe doing a cipro bath. i looked into it and apparently people have had some level of success saving stuff from stn/rtn by giving them baths in various antibiotics. amoxicillin was recommended mostly, but tetracycline, doxycycline, and a couple others have apparently been tried with some success. either way, i don't casually have those on hand, so ciprofloxacin it was

apologies for extra bad pics, i don't clean the glass in my qt tank, but should give an idea

fox flame, i'm not sure was really stn or just an irritated area as there's a bit of algae on there, but i removed it from the plug and tried to cut away the dead part

granulosa again may have just been algae irritating an area, but i gave it a dip and fragged the dead part off

now this one seems like clear stn that was gonna kill the entire thing. i fragged it into 3 pieces trying to stay well above the dead zone

and this is the backside of a red planet that i just put in my dt. i chopped up a few branches and gave them a dip

dosage was 250mg in 1/2 gallon of water for 10-12 minutes

seemed like dosage and times varied wildly from people. some guy said he only does 8-10 minutes max, another guy said he did 2 hours, so who the hell knows, the wild west of coral winging it

my fragging abilities are limited to bonecutters so not the nicest cuts or anything, so i kinda expected losses just from that process

but today i'm not seeing a single loss, surprisingly

granulosa has a bit of a white tip thing going on? shrug, but alive at least

then a couple of the one that was clearly stning

and the red planet frags which don't look great due to the diatoms/dino/whateverthehell is in my dt, but they're all alive

so i just thought that was an interesting experience i might share. i honestly thought most stn/rtn treatments were total snake oil, and this might not be the grand solution, but it's something that can be tried at least.

i have ordered amoxicillin online (it requires a vet rx, but some sites sell it as a fish med) so i'll probably try that in the future as that, according to some random guy on the internet that sounded smart, is probably the best one to attack the bacteria, rather than cipro which just kinda walls off the bacteria :)

Glad to see you tried this, I'll be following along as I'm battling a small even myself.

I had a random RTN of a new tenuis, it was a small wild piece so I wrote it off as nothing. Then a few accidental frags of my RRU RTN'd but the colony is fine so far. Now a piece I've had for a while went over night basically. I cut 3 frags way above death line and they rtn one day later. Now a small homewrecker piece is about 1/2 way gone to rtn. It's super strange its solely tenuis with the issue. I've got enrofloxacin on hand maybe I'll give that a go. I've heard good things about witch hazel too. Maybe I'll give that ago.

Yeah does not sound very appealing! Lmao

Second choices sound good I’ll have to try some out.
