Hello all, I setup a 120 gal sps tank early this year. I used an MP40 for a few years starting in 05. It worked ok and lasted a few years so I planned to setup another MP40 on this new system but then I ran across these Gyre pumps.

I've been in the hobby for well over 30 years, Coral Vue was never seen as the best product. So I have a few questions..

1) What kind of warranty comes with it?
2) Are parts easy to get?
3) Gyre vs MP40....get both?

Thanks

Lotta people don’t like them cause they tend to need more than usual maintenance and cleaning. I personally love them, nothing moves water like them. Mp40 are still superior tho just due to reliability (even tho some have reported magnets rusting out ) and they also can move a ton of water just not in the same fashion (more direct than in sheets) parts are easily come by for both I think, Mp40 might have a better warranty I can’t remember. I believe it’s going to come down to personal preference. I run them both in my tank, might be over kill but I love it.

Thanks brother, I'm retired so I've got plenty of time for maintenance...
When you compare the two, does the Gyre seem to be built as well as the MP40?

Not sure if I can say, I have an older generation gyre, Some of the newer Gyres seem better built than the older ones, but I’ve had mine for years with minimal issues so take what you want from that?

Well my opinion might be tainted sense I was a beta tester for maxspect before they were called gyre pumps. Fun fact originally they were going to be caked riptides, but I guess there was a patent on a previous pump called riptide. But I’m currently running 2 icecap 1k pumps with the icecap dual gyre controller and I think there amazing. But I also am running a vectra m1 on closeloop suppling sea swirls in the two back corners. Also I’m running 2 Nero5s at 50% pulse mode. This is all in a 150g that is mostly SPS. I love the flow of the gyres that they add.

I ran an AmpMaster 3000 with 2x 3/4" SS on a closed loop, it was all I needed on the 150 in my sig..Those SSs are great and they have great customer service..

I've got a a few different "powerheads" but really I'm focused on the OT.. feel free to share your experience with the gyre.

Here’s a vid of my 300g. All I ran on it was 2 xf150 and an external return pump a reeflo. At around the 1:50 make you can see how the current changes

I tried mp60s, mp40s and was never happy. The gyres did it for me. And I was a ecotech fanboy. I had radions and mps all on this tank. Then a friend asked me to try these pump and see how I liked them.

I wondering now if I should get the 330 model over the 350. It's a 4 foot tank?

Thanks again for all the info. I've been out of the loop for some time.

I see Ice Cap has a similar unit with a flow range that I'm looking for not to mention the price.
Any thoughts on the Ice Cap models?
I'm going to look for reviews..

Like I said I’m running two ice cap 1Ks on my 5’ tank and I’ve been very impressed with the flow. Tomorrow I’ll try to get a vid during feeding time to show the flow of the 1k. The 1k is the equivalent to the 30 series. I do like the ice cap duel pump controller as well. The only down side to the IC controller is that it runs on hydros program. Now if you have a hydros then it’s no biggie. But for me it’s another dam app I have to have on my phone.

lol, I don't really care much for using an app for anything on my tank. You know the old saying "can't teach an old dog new tricks" I noticed that on the new IC pumps is wifi or nothing...

Yep. Also from my experience after an update you have to reprogram the whole thing again. On the last update I did, I did right b4 going to work. When I came home I noticed the pumps weren’t working. Logged on to the app and seen that my current set program had been deleted and the controller wasn’t telling the pumps to do anything. But yea the IC duel pump controller has no buttons or display. Link to app via WiFi or BT. If you don’t program the controller the pumps are bricks sitting in water. But after you get it programmed it is pretty sweet. The controller has like seven different wave patterns to choose from and you can set up each pump individually, sync, or anti-sync

MD has the XF330 bundle (controller and two pumps) on sale for $283 and change. I got the 330 bundle, it was hard to pass up. They have the 350 bundle for 327

I like it..what would you say the flow rate is on each of those ?

I'm a little worried about my sand bed with these pumps.. ..I always use sugar size sand.

I’m running them at 90% to 25%. The ICC doesn’t turn the pump off. It just runs it at the lowest power at 25%.
Here’s all the different wave patterns the IC offers

This is my current schedule

Sps reef runs from 8am to 12pm

Then nutrient export from 12pm to 4pm

The alternating gyre from 4pm to 8pm

Then alternating gyre at lower speeds and longer time of gyre from 8pm to 8am

So I will be running the Maxspect gyre. Can I just plug them in and push a button...
Highly doubt it will be that simple. If you bought the duel pump package then most likely you will need to do some programming.

Why not utilize what your paying for? If you just wanted to move water then just buy maxi jets.
