It seems that they just end up dying off 1-by-1 until I have none left? Whats up with that? Maybe it's my flame angel? Or crabs? I can't figure it out? I will have to get my water tested again, as I am not sure what the composition is?

Most likely amphipods... Mine are doing that too right now. I see pods running all over them when the lights go out. Time to get another wrasse for me. Take a look at your tank with a flashlight tonight after the lights turn off. If it is amphipods, you'll see them feasting away.

At the zoo's.....Even when they are closed up! How long after the lights go out? And.....what type of wrasse will take care of that? If the wrasse eats my snails i'm over it...lol.

You have something stressing or eating your zoa's. Make a small cage out of eggcrate and get a cheep zoa to put in it. If it is your fish or larger crabs doing it you will know.

in my zoa prop tank I have had problems with pests, hear is a link that might help.
http://coralpedia.com/index.php?name=FAQ&id_cat=3

I have had this issue at times with new zoa's that was fraged. I look for spiders or Nudi on the zoa's. The link above will give you three areas that might help you find your problem

What is a Zoanthid Predator?
What is a Zoanthid Irritaters?
What is a Zoanthid Disease?

hope this helps

What I think is strange is that, I have some zoas that are doing alright. But it seems that the expensive ones die off. I have a ton of those small white-ish starfish could those be a culprit as well? I see those things on everything. I need to start picking them off or something.

if you see little white starfish on top of your zoas, then you have already found what is eating your zoas. i had that problem in the past as well. a harlequin shrimp will wipe out the starfishes like there's no tomorrow. they are fairly cheap at $15, and are really cool to watch eat the stars.

Im pretty sure it depends on what type of small starfish you have, I had small starfish in my tank for about a year (astrina's I think) 1000's of them. I also have a bunch of zoa's and I have never seen them harm any of my zoa's, but they ate my coralline like there was no tomorrow (leaving little white spots from where they were munching)

No ill effects to my zoa's in over a year. (I think it really depends on the color of the starfish, mine were a whitish grey color)

I finally got tired of them eating my coralline so I got a harlequin and it took care of them, in no time.

after my starfish were all gone (eatin up)
I had some zoa's close and slowly melt away for no reason, even after fragging and dipping. I had about 7 different frags of these pink zoas throughout the tank right next to other frags of different zoas and the pinks were the only ones affected.

Sometimes Sh*t happens

+1 ****, amphipods are killing my zoanthids. it is irratating it and causing the zoanthids not to open up for a long period of time. I see them entering the mouth of my zoanthids when the lights are out. My colony of lemon drop zoas are pretty much all dead. I will be getting a melanurus wrasse to combat them suckas.

I always thought amphipods and asternia starfish will only eat what is already dead or rotting. I would think something else is causing them to die and these zoa irratators are just finishing them off.

Here is a great link to zoa predators, irratators, and diseases.

They do list the asternia starfish as a predator, but most in the family are reef safe. I have thousands of these and amphipods. I thought they were also causing my zoas to melt and die. As soon as I started dosing VitC, I have not lost a zoa/paly and I still see my amphipods and starfish all over them.

Wow you think, recently I have been hearing this more and more. I dont think thats what happing but could I guess. I would think it would be more due to po4 too low or too high. In your case if your acro Tom are doing very well thats means low nutrients in which the paly an zoos really dont like hth.

Mandrin will help in keeping them in control. A herlequin shrimp will keep the astrineas in check also. Sorry for the spelling.
