You might be depleting nitrate, assuming that your test kit is accurate. I would bring it up to 10-20ppm range.

Having said all that — have you looked at potential predators? My zoas would not open for days and ended up dying. It turned out — my (black neon) DAMSEL was nipping and eating all my zoas!

How long have you had the zoas that are melting? What's the lighting set up?

I agree with getting the Nitrates up.

Might also give them a dip and see if anything menacing falls off.

How do I increase nitrate ?
Havnt seen any nipping or closing more a shrinking extension then melting away. Other zoas look amazing.

As others have stated nitrate .5 is quite low. A lot of newer reef filtration systems that utilize rollers or socks overly clean the water leaving nothing behind to break down into ammonia and then nitrate.

If you are using filter socks change them less often to allow some of the waste to break down and release ammonia(nitrate) before changing them. Some people also like to feed more to raise nitrate. I have never used a roller because I feel that they remove too much from the water. I actually don't run either socks or rollers, I just vacuum out my sump from time to time.

Feeding more can work but I prefer to dose ammonium nitrate or calcium nitrate as overfeeding can also turn into excessive nitrates that are harder to reduce. If you have your nitrate source on a doser and see the levels starting to climb to high you can just shut the doser off.

Ammonium nitrate is easier for corals to uptake but is also easier to overdose. Calcium nitrate is more stable and breaks down to just additional calcium after the nitrate is gone.

up to nitrate to 5 with some nitrate dosing. And drop the phosphates down to below 0.3 with some GFO or LC if you have a sump/sock, do it slowly over a 1-2 weeks period.

that should help with the corals stalling/melting.
