Lets try this again, what an idiot!

Now that I'm about a week or so out from filling this up it's time for a new build thread.

Preface this build .... (Feel free to skip this probably a bit longwinded :ROFLMAO:)
I still feel like a total beginner to this 2 years in and felt like I have always been "in-between" tanks. Admittedly this is my fault I was always looking to upgrade, upgrade this, upgrade that. I do enjoy the setting up and collecting the equipment as much as the actual reef keeping, gear head. But I intend to and have been trying to be more of present user of this forum that has helped me. The current tank was supposed to be a FOWLR for a pair of clowns (Oooops) I couldn't get rid of in a breakdown about this time last year. That quickly changed and this tank has shown me some awesome bits of these eco systems I didn't experience on my first build.

Current Set-Up:

Equipment on the new build is all a little oversized .. I bought and built a Reefer 350 that I ultimately decide was too big for my place. I was trying to sell off the equipment to fund a new smaller build when I realized why not just keep and run it on this tank. Im learning a little LOL

New Build Equipment:
Nuvo 30L EXT (Worlds last I'll have you know ... funny story, I'll tell if you ask nice ;))
3 AI Prime 16
Reef Octopus 152S Skimmer
18W UV Sterilizer
Varios 8 (Turned way down it'll also power a manifiold)

The sump is the missing piece and I'll post more on that when it's here. Should be done this week, fingers crossed.

Going for an open scape to let the corals grow into, the nuvo 20 feels a little crammed. And thinking about adding a rock shelf in the middle section. Open to ideas and suggestions I have tons of leftover rock from the build that didn't happen.

Reefer 350 for the memory. I even built a manifold , I sold it to another member here so hopefully I see a build on it soon.

Your current peninsula is very nice. I look forward to what you do with this system. So the EXT stands for external right? Who is making the sump?

I like the layout. What type of corals are your shooting for?

how do you like that stand? I didn’t realize they made larger tanks as well until recently. If I had known about the 150 I probably would have gone that route. The stand look great and it’s nice to see a company offering aluminum right out the gate.
Is this wet yet?

Thanks man! Advanced Acrylics made the sump, I went with one of their isolated fuge models.

Mixed reef but leaning heavy on LPS I’m sure. I have yet to keep any SPS there are few acros that I really like and plan to give them a shot down the road.

Honestly besides the the dimensions of the tank the stand is why I bought another IM tank. I love these aluminum stands they look great, super solid and easy to put together.

It is wet, need to finish up plumbing and work on wire management.

Got the majority of the coral transferred, everything seems to be doing well. Hammers are still in the old tank with my clown pair adding them last to try and diffuse their aggression.

Got the sump plumbing finished up as well and some of the cables wrangled. Thinking about adding a controller soon so I don’t want to get to neat.

Lots of free rock space to fill.

Fuge is online as well. I will get some more pics of that up soon and details on the sump and plumbing. It’s seems difficult to edit and post pics on here via my cell and such a pain to email them to my laptop to upload.

Well ... my fish got velvet and I killed some SPS frags. Other than that the tank has been chugging along. Fuge was cranking out chaeto until I pulled the fish, now I am just trying to maintain some nutrients to keep things in check.

QT is going well so far (knock on wood). Once I got rid of the PT everything is getting along. The starry blenny probably has the most character out of all the fish but I really enjoy the Rhomboid as well. They are going through their first round of General Cure now. So about 3 more weeks in QT plus some time for observation.

Also have a GHL KH Director on its way supposed to arrive tomorrow.

First round of frags from @EdReefer killer zoas and packaging. He also hooked me up with a Digi which prompted me to buy a frag of Slimer and Oregon tort next.

Picked up a few more frags and a Orange Linkia, which is what I am blaming the velvet on. There had been no other fish additions in over a month and all the coral was dipped.

Glamour shots before the SPS died lol, the Oregon Tort and Monti Cap are still holding on.

And the QT Gang!! I still have the extra Black Cap Basslet which was not looking so hot, why I pulled the ad in the for sale section. I now believe the PT (Purple Tang) beat it up. It's is doing great now eating pellets and Mysis aggressively. I am going to run it through QT before finding a new home.

I’ve been filling in my euphyllia garden as of late. Love all the hammer varieties always on the hunt for new ones.

Also got this new toy set-up and testing alk twice a day. I know it’s not by any means necessary but I cant tell you how nice it is to wake up or get home from work, log on and see where my alk is at. The Hanna test kit all be it easy, I dreaded cleaning the parts each time as I was pretty anal about this.

QT is going well the fish have been through two rounds of General Cure and 21 days in copper. Hopefully I round the bend without issue. The extra Black Cap will be going to a new home next weekend I can see it won’t work long term...

Nice! Yeah they are kind of spazzy.

They’re not totally trying to tear each other apart, could be asserting male and female roles. But with no viable way to sex them I don’t want to try to catch one in a few months when it doesn’t work.

Loving this build! Used to run the IM 30L AIO, loved the footprint of that tank! Yours is the BEAST MODE version of my old setup tho 😂

Thanks guys! Yeah the footprint is great feels like a mini standard 120 ratio wise.

Longevity is the goal with this one, I always seem to tear down at the year mark when things get good.

Doing some detail work while I finish out QT. Also hit up clear view lids for a quote on one of their Pisces series lids.

LEDs installed so I can see what I’m doing (now that everything’s done lmao)

Got all the cables managed and power bricks mounted to the underside of the tank. Wanted the shelf to be more clear for the KH Director I added and the inevitable addition of Profilux 4.

All the fish are back in and doing well. After QT ended up with the below list and they have all settled in well. The only one that concerns me a bit is the wrasse, be it my favorite fish, it's healthy as can be I just feel like it gets bored. Tank may be a little too small and maybe should have opted for a smaller flasher wrasse. We will see.

Black Cap Basslet
Starry Blenny
Rhomboid Wrasse
Helfrichi
Pair of Clowns, I think their called frostbite not sure.

I was having issues with my euphyllia. A couple hammers and a goni got what I think was brown jelly disease maybe. I threw out the hammer and goni that had it the worst to avoid it spreading. I dipped the other hammers, two in not so great condition, for 2/3 days straight in revive and moved them all to real low flow. They have since seemed to recover over the course of 2-3 weeks. Everything else is doing fairly well now and I accredit that partially to the re-addition of the fish.

Tested a few parameters today too. I have struggled to get any phosphate to read since I have started this tank and had this issue in the previous tank as well. I have been feeding more flake food and trying to feed the coral more as well. I just do a broadcast feed of Oyster feast 2-3 ml once a week but I do feed the fish 3 times a day small amounts. I think if i got the phosphates up the zoas would do better.

Alk: 7.0
Nitrate: 5-10 (Salifert)
Phosphate: 0 (Salifert and Hanna ULR)
Salinity: 1.025
Ph: 8.0 (Hanna)
Temp: 77.2 f

I'm not real happy with my flow in this tank. I have plenty of it just not in the right directions. I'm running a Nero 3 on the back wall and and Nero 5 left side closer to front of the tank. Both are set to random mode 1% min. 12/15 % max and I feel like I still get some unilateral flow on the far right corner.

Going to try to dial these in. Open to suggestions any experience?

Need to work on photo skills with the fish ... well everything really.

This is one of my favorites, we don't have much yellow and this is eye catching when you pop by.

Added this a month ago or so and it's completing a split into two for sure maybe three. Pretty cool to watch I've never seen it before.
