He made a commitment to me last week to sell me 120lbs or LR. Right away I mentioned I couldn't pick up until Friday 5/9 but could pay in cash. He replied Wednesday 5/7 that it wasn't a problem because I could deal with his Dad (he was going to be out of town) and even gave me a phone number. Friday rolls around and I call twice and left a voicemail and PM.....no answer until today.

You guessed it, he sold it out from under me to somebody else on Thursday. Said he couldn't wait until Friday - even though he said Wed it was no big deal. He had time to sell the LR to somebody else but not to PM or call me....wonderful.

edit: I posted this to comment on his poor communication, not his character. For all I know, he's a standup dude. I've never met him.

I hear ya. I'm just saying he shoulda given me a courtesy call and I would've made plans to pick it up Thur. If waiting 2 days for pickup was such an issue, he never mentioned it. He even stated otherwise, which is why I was ready for pick up on Friday with 3 styro boxes.

I've been in the aquarium hobby for 20+ years. In my book, it's not about the $$. If someone replies first and wants an item, ask for a deposit if you're concerned they're going to flake on you. Once you make a sale, you should keep up your end of the bargain.

agreed... had the same issue with another reefer on rc last week. i pm'd him for a rock of xenia's. he called me in the morning to set up a time later on that day at 4pm for pickup... he says "don't worry", i wont sell them... well, 4pm rolls around and i give him a call while on my way over to his house. no answer... i try again and leave a message. 15 minutes later he "text" me and says he sold them. wtf! he didn't even have the guts to call me. i changed my plans the whole day for this a-hole.

funny thing is, i replied to a thread later on that night with someone else about trading my rics/yumas for some zoa's and guess what... the flake pm's me and wants to see if i would sell my rics/yumas to him. i couldn't believe he had the nerve to ask me that...

i would have been fine with him selling it to someone else, but to set up a time with me, and have me wait around all day for nothing! a courtesy call would have been good. i would have been ok with that.

Wed 5/7 - me: I'll take all of it, Fri ok for pickup?
Wed 5/7 - you: sure, call my dad I'll be out of town, bring tubs.
Thur 5/8 - < ---- "money talks"
Fri 5/9 - me: call 1, call 2, VM, PM
Mon 5/12 - you: I sold it On Thur.
Mon 5/12 - me: wth?
