Cute! I used to get very small purples and yellows when I kept nano tanks in the 90's, they would always go to much bigger homes after a short period of time.
Well yeah - I used yellow & purple tangs ($15-17) to cycle my tank. Oh let’s not forget about those tiny blue tangs for $8/ea - those suckers grew fast!

Update. Had a murderous clown that after taking out 2 buddies decided to off itself? Guess it didn't like my ugly mug looking at it too often.
The scopas got adopted.
Manderin also went belly up for unknown reasons.
I just suck!
Did a mini reset on the fish. 2 married clowns and 2 firefish.
Mushrooms decided to go on a hiking trip and detached.
My ghetto variety of Sps is doing well. Conclusion is that the roller filter may be too efficient.
I'll eventually test in about a month or so.

Tank is still pretty new, so it won't be stable. Has it even gone through the ugly stage yet?

Too bad about the fish, they all have their personalities and some are crazy.

No uglies, used some bioblocks that had been sitting in a mature tank. The algae is of a green variety. No diatoms, hair, slime, or that other funk. Snails and hermits doing thier jobs fairly well.

After the 10th+ tanks, you can just reef by "feelings". Man - I bootstrapped my 25gal tank and filled it up with corals within days, no issues! Got bored and shut it down after 5mos -- lol.

You'll be surprise though -- what are your Alk/N/P?

I think keeping new tanks too clean is a problem, it doesn't allow for the natural benthic succession to take place and starves the bacteria and micro fauna, which need to establish themselves in order to create a balanced and healthy biome. This is why we see a lot of dino cases pop up everywhere, low nutrients and a very small bacterial population.
Hopefully things will stabilize soon, just go slow and enjoy. With nano tanks, weekly 10-15% water changes go a long way with keeping things on track.
