Anyone in SF Valley or Ventura culture pods? I need to get some for my new mandarin, Picasso, and I’m also about to start that journey and could use guidance!

I'm not close to SF Valley, so can't help you with that. But most LFS have pods available.

I think the Tisbe pods will easily grow and reproduce in any system. Even in your main display since there is lots of hiding places under rocks. I also just use a clear container, add some phyto or every small flakes, and tank water....and add some Tisbe pods, and they grow well.

I'm also thinking about growing some Tigger pods, and using some of that reef nutrition tigger pods. But have not gotten the okay from the wife to have a container of green water outside to grow the pods.

Congrats on your mandarin. Hope yours will eat other foods too. My mandarin actually eat flakes, but I still add a lot of pods. He is fat and happy.

Always good if you can get your mandarin eating other foods. Mine hunts all day but has a tank full of wrasses to contend with. Helps a ton that my mandy eats Reef Nutrition B2 pellets and LOVES white worms. White worm culture is relatively east.

Sorry Joe, I killed the white worm culture in the 1st week of trying. I forgot to sterilize the new soil, and a bunch of nats grew instead.

Thanks! I was hoping not to get the ones in the bottle to actually start a population but that sounds super easy the way you put it!!

For the Tisbe, I got a free sample bottle at Reeferpalooza LA, and that is still going strong.

I have divided it into 2 bottles now, and just pour half into the tank daily, refill with tank water and add a tiny bit of phyto. Repeat. It's been going well. After a couple weeks, the bottle does get nasty with some algae and I just pour the contents into a new clean bottle.

As for the tigger pods, I meant to buy the bottle of reef nutrition tigger pods to start a culture with. Or get it from another vendor that sell pods. Seems pretty simple.

I'm culturing some pods now, but I don't have a lot to share at the moment. I do grow phyto, so if you need some, just let me know? Work has been crazy for me, so I haven't really checked on the pods much, but I'll take a look today.

Locally, everybody has been out of pods or they get them in and they are gone in hours…I like the idea of just rotating and growing…my question is, how do you know that the half you are pouring in has enough pods for the day? I mean, I barely can see them in the RN bottles as it is!!

Cool thanks! I’ll probably need phyto for sure when I get the culture started.
