These fish have been qt for a week with the recommended dose of Coppersafe. Anyone know what these spots are on the powder brown? Fish were not sick prior to qt.
Could possibly be a bacterial or fungal infection. My sailfin recently had a nasty infection while in copper only qt. Started out as a blemish/spot that turned into an open wound. I didn’t think he was going to make it but ran him through kanaplex and metro and he made it though. The pictures are in order from when i got him, mid infection, healed and out of qt

are you running an air stone on the QT tank? and high flow? the powder blue and brown both need well oxygenated water with good flow. I call these death spots. these fish are hard to QT. They need a big space too. 4ft long QT minimum. tank likely needs a 50% water change and the raise the copper level again after.

Thanks for the reply. Did you treat with kanaplex and metro while in the copper?

Yes i have a airstone in there and only the HOB filter. I did not know about the high flow. Its my first rodeo when it comes to QT.

I threw the kitchen sink at him because I thought he was a goner. I did a 50% water change, 2 rounds of prazi, 2 rounds of metro and 3 rounds of kanaplex. I also fed metro/focus soaked food. Prazi is not necessary if you think it is bacterial/fungal.

Make sure you have plenty of oxygen exchange. I have a powerhead pointing at the water surface with an HOB filter that sits 3-4 inches above the water to create plenty of oxygen.

ok, as paranoia said definitely want to add a decent strength powerhead angled towards the water surface to make a circular gyre flow in the tank and get good oxygenation. and a large water change is recommended. you can re-dose the meds after to their therapeutic levels.

I got the fish meds (Kana/Metro/Focus) today and went to look in on the QT tank and the brown was not looking to good so I yanked him and did a fresh water dip. Are these Flukes??? If so how do I treat? I have him in a bucket with a air stone at the moment. The other tangs look fine do I need to treat them also? I haven't dosed any meds yet. Thanks

If they were in the same tank you need to treat them all. Flukes can usually be handled with prazi dosed directly to the qt if it is not a severe case. Make sure you do two treatments 5-7 days apart. If you need to add prazi to copper and metro together at the same time, make sure you have tons of oxygen exchange. I usually keep my powerhead pointed directly at the water surface.
