Not really a new build but I restarted my tank, so I might as well start the thread over too.

Big shoutout to @OGfrenchorn for hooking me up with some great dry rock he had on hand, as well as letting use his tunze skimmer for this. I believe the left structure was from my tank around 10 years ago, which is pretty cool. The center of the right structure is a killer piece full of channels my chromis are already utilizing. I bought some of @joseserrano's live/cured solomon island branch rock to scape the rest. I used GlueMaster's super thin set glue and sand to quickly build of that main rock. It turned out pretty good, I didn't focus too much on the detail of this or that branch, just overall outline/space filled and how things seem to fit naturally. Then glued them in place. I'm happy with the outcome and have spots for whatever I decide to keep.
My goal was to keep the rock minimal as possible, leaving open swimming areas and room for growth as far as height goes, I still tried to keep enough overhangs, channels and tunnels for fish to feel secure.

Current fish are all from my breakdown:
Magnificent foxface
7 Blue/green chromis
2 true percs of some CB lineage I can't recall
1 lyretail anthias
Wish list
White tail bristletooth (red)
leopard wrasse
pintail wrasse
angel of some type
I'd love a psuedo but that'll be way later
I'd love a pistol/goby but not sure I want to deal with that mess.

Ultimately I don't plan to QT coral and I didn't QT my liverock (didn't ask if it was fishless) so I opted not to QT my exsisting fish. They've all been with me for over a year.

I overbought sand, and Carson's Tropical was kind enough to let bring it back, I walked away with a small copperband butterfly fish that was eating. He will be going through TTM QT, with peroxide dips. All future fish will. I stopped treating fish due to feeling like I was losing to many, this method seems less stressful/toxic. So I'll be giving that a go.

Excited about the sand bed. and I'm committed to keeping it this time around, that'll be new to me really.

Overall plan:
Sps on main rockwork; I want to track down Lime in the Sky. Lokani (yellow). One stag type piece per structure, couple millepora/smooth skins. With focus on color contrast, shape and structure contrasts. We'll see how that goes.
Anemone front left structure - not sure I want to try a gig again, but most likely something other than a BTA. My clowns have never used it as a host nem, spoiled true carpet in the past i guess.
Overhangs, on separate small branch islands I want to do some softies. Mushrooms, maybe a couple zoa islands.

As demand kicks in, I'll start with Kalk (hunting for a kalk stirrer). Eventually if all goes well, going back to a calcium reactor +kalk. At that point I might consider upping my controller.

I'll be running UV or ozone (ozone if I upgrade controller, so later) for water clarity. That's a top priority this go around. Less rock, more space between glass, I want things to be nice and clear .

Next on my list is a CUC. I had zero cuc when I broke down, but my alk was 3.5-4 so that's what I get.

Fish shot, reefcrest Quanta Pro x 3. Other 2 are 2x Kessil 500x, 80% color. They'll be ran in combo once I start adding color, for now it's just the kessils running to build up some algae for a cuc.

Great start! Most of us pile too much rocks into our scape. And I’m digging the open space.

Are you planning to vacuum the sand regularly? I don’t touch my sand, but my phosphates have been climbing up over time.

I would reach out to some of the other local reefers that are successfully keeping gigs and pick their brains to see what kind of treatments/source they are using.

If I can get the appropriate CUC to where I don't have to do that too much that will be ideal. I'm guessing I'll have to siphon or at least stir it up regularly until I get there though. I'm looking forward to a nassarius army popping up during feeding time. I'll add a few conch once I know there is enough life in the bed for them.

Yeah the gigs are tough, I've kept a couple that I regret selling now. I thought I had the treatment pretty locked down but got humbled pretty hard end of '25 with a few of them! We'll see what I land on. Carsons has a Hellfire anemone, boy is that thing cool. I'd never keep one, but pretty rad looking critter.

Looks awesome! Keep those lights on low during this phase or dinos will creep in. Can't wait to see this fill in. Lmk when you're ready for some frags.

For sure, don't want to deal with that this go around. I appreciate that, I'll be hitting you up!

I love the dimensions of your display. If you had to do it over again would you change the size in any way?

I would be happy to cut you a piece of Lime in the Sky, which I got from you

With how wide it is front to back, it might have been better for maintenance to go shallower, maybe 20-22" to make it easier to reach the back bottom of the tank? I love top down viewing so that maybe have been cool for a lagoon style tank.
That said, this will be nice for some large stagnhorn colonies, so no I wouldn't change anything about the dimensions. Maybe an external overflow, glassed in type like IM. That would have been sweet, and probably quieter for sure. It's fairly easy to light for a 200+ gallon display. I'm also okay with not keeping larger tangs ect with the reduced length.

The stand, I for sure wish I went atleast 2" taller. Skimmer choices are slim and even piping the plumbing in was pretty tight.

Hey man, hope all is well. I'd love to buy one back when the tank's ready. That was one of my favorite pieces in the system. Did those pieces all settle in pretty well for you?

The CBB made it through QT and is in acclimation on the display. I was lucky enough to buy a female lamarcks angelfish from @drexel today as well. Very happy with the movement on the tank at this point. The Hybrid TTM was easy enough. So ill be trying it again soon.

Cranking up the lights a little more but the rock already lost the ugliest thanks to the Solomon live rock from @joseserrano. I’ve got some CUC additions from Jojos group buy so I want to make sure there’s something for them to eat.

I’m loving the look of the sand so far, taking this time to dial in my flow as best I can but I’m pretty close.
Starting up my fuge with chaeto tonight. Then I plan to get the electrical all running and tidied up this week. Going to test parameter later today and see where I’m at. I hope to add some tester pieces soon.

I need to figure out something to cover the large gaps on my overflow’s teeth. To keep fish from swimming in there. I had these pre filter sheets from Bashsea sump but I can’t figure out what that material is called. It was like pvc filter floss. Anyone know the name of it?

Anyone have success keeping a group of lyretails? I’m tempted to buy a group of small females if I can find them and allow my lone lyretail to turn male.

I’ve decided I want to keep a flasher, preferably an eightline, but I really love pintails as well. So those are on my list for now.

Tank looks awesome in person and I can’t wait until you get some frags in there. It’s gonna look great! Next time I won’t forget the live sand and phyto. If it wasn’t such a battle getting her out of my tank, I would’ve remembered.

I have a dozen or so lyretails in my tank and they go nuts for Reef Nutrition Roe.
Key is to feed as often as realistic..
I just give a squirt of Roe into a powerhead and let them do what Anthias do... Eat... A LOT..
I have one super male, a dominant female and the rest are smaller females. So far so good... Been about 6 months and zero losses

Looks awesome - congrats! If you want some free frags to populate your tank, swing by. I don’t have high-end ones but I can assure you that they’re very resilient. If they can survive my tank, they’ll survive an apocalypse! ;)

That's great to hear. I wonder if that's the key, have so many no individual gets picked on too badly or consistently? I started with 4 females and dwindled down to this lone female I have now.

I appreciate that and I'll take you up on it when I'm ready to go. I think that muriatic acid bath helped quite a bit, and the rock I got from Jose was pretty clean.

Salinity 1.024
Alk 6
Calcium 420
Mag 1320
Nitrate 10-20
Phosphate .19

Not too bad of a start, pretty close to where I kept things before the tear down. Started up my refugium. Lamarcks angel and CBB got released today and the tank is relatively peaceful so far.
