are you doing sand in your next tank? i really love the idea of barebottom, and i've even come around to the aesthetic of it, but i can't see myself ever going without sand burying wrasses and the in between options don't seem great. letting the flow go super hard in the paint would be cool tho
Exact same thoughts about it. Painting the bottom white helped with the looks of it a lot and the main reason I went BB on this was the peninsula layout combined with the height of the tank. I knew I was going to really have to crank flow too keep sps front to back how I wanted.

the next tank is going to be sand since it is 25 tall and I’ll have 2 non viewing panels to work with for wave maker placement.
I was super bummed to sell off my blue star wrasse but sand wasn’t going to work long term for me. This is was a top of the list fish for me so I’m going to limp by for the next month or two and deal with it. It’s a pretty small amount of sand and he’s fairly large so I’m sure he stirs it up pretty good getting in and out. I noticed a small bump in ph after adding it too.
I’m good on tangs for the next tank. So the rest of the additions are going to be sand dwelling wrasse and a few fairy/flashers. I really want an 8 line flasher. Group of blue green chromis and something that turns the sand for me. Maybe a goby shrimp pair or CB rainfords or hector type goby.

yeah that height seems like it'll help, my tank is just 20" tall so i've wondered how much just a couple more inches would buy me. i've also come around to not minding the sand being uneven at best haha

i'd love to get a bunch more fish, but i also feel like my current mix is a lot and quite peaceful with each other so i hate to upset the apple cart much. should've got the 150... lol

Yeah once you find that balance it's time to tread lightly haha. Even the addition of this wrasse reset the whole tank hierarchy and the tangs had to figure it all out again.

Damn. Casualty of adding more fish to the tank and disturbing the balance I guess. He was stuck to my mp40 behind a bunch of coralline algae and I couldn’t see him.
I noticed my flasher is getting pumped now too. I may have to pull it and sump it until the new build
RIP male sunset

Thanks bud! They are looking good. It's pretty close to what they look like XHO with orange shades on. That millepora is bright no matter what

that sucks. i love the sunsets, but man i'm down to 2 from 6 after like 3-4 months of having them, idk what their deal is
ya know I don't think they are much better than bartletts with aggression in the shoal. I think I did well for a while because the females were small and the male was 100% boss. As the females got larger the split 1.3 vs .2 and eventually one of those got punked to death, then the other. Now I'm down to 3 decent sized females so we'll see how it goes.
I think part of my problem might be the similar coloration with my pintail fairy wrasse male too. Since adding the larger chaoti he's really been letting the anthias and filamented flasher know who's boss. I'm going to pull the flasher, he hits the screen daily now.

I think if I try anthias again I’d give resplendents a whirl, but I’ll probably wait for a bigger tank before doing it

Those are nice. I'm tempted to add more sunsets when I upgrade. But then again, I might just say f-it and add a huge group of blue green chromis. Hard to beat their coloration and a whole lot cheaper of a gamble :) I'll just have to QT them for sure

those terrify me with uronema lol

I wonder how a group of meiacanthus blennies would work out

I had two kamoharas who seemed accepting but I saw at steinhart they had a trio of smiths, idk how long they’ve had them like that tho

tilefish apparently get along well too, a whole bunch of those would be cool

I have a group of 4 Carberryi Anthias and they are a great shoal. All are still female so not sure what they will do when one turns. I would recommend the carberryi if you can get some. I wish I had been cheep and gotten more.

Dude! That sucks! Same happened to me earlier in the week. Lights went out and one of my baby blue tangs tried to go sleep in the mp60…didn’t work out for him.

I know that’s why I’d do a full on QT for those of I go that route. Might end up offsetting the cost difference tho! Although they do pretty good in QT if I remember right. I want to say I used CP for them.

that would be cool. I know nothing about those blended but I do like the look of them. I also wouldn’t mind a group of those zebra dart fish. I just never see them much anymore. 405 fish used to get them in real cheap for awhile. Not sure how they would handle the flow I plan though.
