Never seen a growth pattern like that off of an Oregon tort. You polyp extension makes me jealous!
It's getting blasted with flow and pretty good light. Maybe it's trying to escape lol. Looking forward to a taller tank so I can place it lower and let it climb.

My polyp extension got crazy when I went to MH. Not sure if that's a difference in the actual type of lighting or maybe just tells me I was too intense on the radions. I've also started using brightwells aminos again so that's probably helping too.

I wish i could go MH or T5, but with an enclosed canopy i sit right at 79.5-80.5 degrees with LEDs. Have you ever tested par in your tank? Starting to think i need to dial mine back a bit, I’m at around 400 at the top of my rocks. I have a Hawkins i got from Sorin a few months back as well, growing well but mine is more more of a teal/turquoise color.

I hear ya on that. My tank is the same, the radions heated my tank too. The only difference are my fans run almost all day now. I also keep my house pretty cool since I'm home so much now.

I never tested par on this system. My tanks 16" tall and I had the xr30 blues at 55% with diffusers about 10" off the tank. 3 on a 4' span, so I think the par was very high looking back. I'm 250w x2 with the xho on at the same height so I'm sure it's pretty high par but from everything I've read MH par can be much higher than LED, not sure why that is. I tested par in my 180g with g3 pros and I was averaging 550-650 if I remember right on the top pieces like WD and other tenuis and colors were great. That tank had nutrient levels no3 around 10 give or take and po4 was .1-.2 area. So i think its true if you run high par you gotta back it up with more nutrients to maintain color and not bleach. This tank is gaining color back now that I'm getting nutrients again. I tested at 5-10 no3 and .14 po4 yesterday. Most noticeable change is in tenuis though, the rest just darkened up. Some of them I prefered at lower nutreint levels, like hawkins and reef pets UV. How is the Doomsday looking?

I live in the IE where it regularly gets 105-110 out, so I leave the ac set at 77. Electricity bill still hits $400 in the summer months, so i think my hands may be tied on running LEDs until i upgrade to solar and a new AC.

The doomsday looks awful but so does my Oregon tort i got elsewhere. My nutrients are still super low since i only have 4 fish in a tank with 220gl total volume. The cookie monster look alike still looks good along with all of my other sps. Bringing nutrients up is not something I am used to doing intentionally since i have always have had such heavily fish stocked tanks in the past. So you will need to put me back at the top of the list for the next round of doomsday, maleficent and Oregon tort frags lol

I am realizing how much nutrients play a part in color an PE. Current numbers are-

Salt- 1.025
Alk- 8.2
Cal- 420
Mg- 1350
Phos- .03
Nitrate- 2-10 (estimated) i say this broad because i may be colorblind.. I can’t read these kits to save my life. Waiting for the Hanna High range kits to be restocked.

I will have a pintail wrasse, flame hawk, gem tang and purple tang coming out of qt next month, so that should help with the nutrients a bit because currently there is only a clown, yellow corris, small blue tang and a small sailfin in the tank.

Yeah we have the $400 E bill too but that's with our pool in play as well.

Those numbers look pretty good, that's a bummer they aren't doing well. My doomsday is big enough to replace the frag no problem so let me know when you want to try the CB and I'll get you frags of those 3.

Have you tried the salifert kit for nitrate? It's great for anything around 2-10 you just read the test vial sideways against the color chart and divide by 10. It becomes much easier to match up then when you're looking at the 20-100 ppm colors.

I've never had luck with manually raising my nutrients. I think it does more harm than good with mini swings everyday. This tank ran 0/0 despite me feeding like mad. The best thing I did in that time was feed live phytoplankton and oyster feast nightly. The phytoplankton helps feed without polluting the tank and creating algae issues and will help build up pod populations. If you know Eve, hit him up he has the best live phytoplankton. Insanely more dense than anything you'll buy. He is in Jurupa too and a great reefer. If you suspect a food/lack of nutrient problem that'd be a good thing to try.

Hopefully this will workout for fragging chunks off the acropora that table or grow real tight. I’m hoping to use them as chisels amd tap large pieces off that are shading ones below.

The kit is from Amazon. It is SS and design for clay sculptures. Around the 10 dollar mark. I’ll see how well they hold up to saltwater.
