It can be hit and miss. It’s the two small frag tanks at the end of the invert isle. Basically if you look at that center and now left 300-400g displays All the way at the back you’ll see the mommas. Look at growth of the one you like, see if it looks like it’s been fragged then roll the dice on the frag tank. He dips like crazy when they come in then when they go to the frag tank amd they lose all color.

its been slow before and I was shooting the shit with him and he was showing me the supplier pictures of the colonies/boxes he bought. It’s right up there with the RR stuff honestly. Just won’t be colored up so I base it off structure. Every tenuis I have bought turns out awesome but mariculture tenuis are tough and finicky.

Thanks man, it’s looking good!

now I just gotta figure out these damn aiptasia. I dropped 3 more peppermints in the tank after lights out ( 3rd try) and they are gone by morning. I think the bangaii is enjoying some $35 dinners!

Man, reefing.. Just when it seems to be on cruise control something's gotta go wrong. I lost my chaoti wrasse today. Puzzled as to how really? I usually solely feed frozen. I fed flake for the first time today, omegaone. Everyone ate it up no problem. All look fine so my best guess: the flake stays at the surface unlike frozen. I'm guessing he was on his way to grab food of the surface and something spooked him or compete and he over jumped and cracked himself. He was on his sand section not breathing when I noticed. I cannot find any obvious sign of injury but that's my best guess. Nothing is showing spots or flashing, nor was he and I doubt even a contaminated flake food would kill so fast. Also I saw everything eating it so I think other smaller fish would have been affected. I've lost a lot of fish but this one really sucks as they are notoriously hard to keep and he had already be adjusted to tank life for 2 years.

Oh man, that totally sucks! Sorry to hear. I’m with you on the aiptasia front, I have 5 peppermint shrimp and I think they managed to take out two small aiptasias so far, I guess that’s something. I’ll probably track down some berghia, but it seems like people are charging a lot more for them now? Again, sorry about the wrasse, those guys are pretty cool.

Thanks John. I’m thinking of trying more berghia now but they do seem a whole lot more expensive. I can’t imagine what would prey on them in my tank now.

Peppermint shrimp will go after their eggs and large pods can prey on the tiny ones, but there are usually enough to survive and grow. I might have to do a Salty underground order if I can’t find any near me. I’ll pay $20 for medium to large ones, but $30 each isn’t going to work for me. I’ll let you know if I find any near me.

Maybe that's what got them then. My cleaner shrimp pair is pretty big, they could have pulled apart the berghia no problem.

Yeah, shrimp can get into places fish can’t, so they can definitely do some damage to smaller ones and the eggs.

Yeah we have the $400 E bill too but that's with our pool in play as well.

Those numbers look pretty good, that's a bummer they aren't doing well. My doomsday is big enough to replace the frag no problem so let me know when you want to try the CB and I'll get you frags of those 3.

Have you tried the salifert kit for nitrate? It's great for anything around 2-10 you just read the test vial sideways against the color chart and divide by 10. It becomes much easier to match up then when you're looking at the 20-100 ppm colors.

I've never had luck with manually raising my nutrients. I think it does more harm than good with mini swings everyday. This tank ran 0/0 despite me feeding like mad. The best thing I did in that time was feed live phytoplankton and oyster feast nightly. The phytoplankton helps feed without polluting the tank and creating algae issues and will help build up pod populations. If you know Eve, hit him up he has the best live phytoplankton. Insanely more dense than anything you'll buy. He is in Jurupa too and a great reefer. If you suspect a food/lack of nutrient problem that'd be a good thing to try.
I have never fed phypo or oyster feast but I am going to try it now.. I think i had so much success with sps in my old tank because it was heavily stocked and had been established for a few years before adding sps. It’s a bit puzzling and discouraging to me on why some of my sps are doing ok, and others are a total flop.. do you spot feed these with the pumps off, or just dump it into the flow? Does Eve have a sale thread on his phyto?
Sounds like next month ill be in OC for work a lot so I‘ll shoot you a pm for a doomsday, maleficent and Oregon tort pack

Anytime I click on your thread … I have to be sure some napkins are near by to wipe up my drool.

Seriously tank is gorgeous, I often use it as an example to my non reefing friends to get them excited.
