Anyone have any suggestions cleaning a old glass tank? Trying to get rid of the old organics suck to the wall. Thinking of using murrictic acid and water mix to dissolve the dead stuff.

I think vinegar is best it. Won't harm your silicone. Just dilute it with water and let it sit over night. Then should be able to scrape it off

Like other said before. Distilled white vinegar. Depending on the size of the tank pour enough of the stuff, leave it for a day or two. I have even sometimes thrown in an old power head to keep water moving and it will pretty much clean itself.

I have pool so use muriatic acid a lot to clean up calcium deposits from pretty much anything reef related. Use it straight out of a syringe or diluted in water. As long as you're careful with it it is not a problem, only stings if you have cuts or scrapes on your hands. Definitely keep it away from anything with bleach in it, like comet cleanser, shower type cleaners, as that will create chlorine gas which is not nice.

barkeepers friend is also very good for cleaning old tanks. like $7 from home depot. if you are gonna use muriatic then consider getting used/old rock too, that way you can clean both at the same time.

Thanks for everyone's reply. I guess I'm going to try running a vingear mix with the tank running to get rid of all the dead stuff left stuck to the walls. Thanks everyone
