Not sure what happened

I was at work got a call from my brother saying tank was cloudy and I had dead fishes

So far I was able to do a 35g water change cause that’s all the water I had on me

Not sure what else to do, I had a carbon reactor running previously so I put in a new batch.

Nitrates were 6 and po4 was .15

Nobody was home to spray anything, no stray voltage.

Not sure what the cause was

When you say crash ... did anything everything died?
Or your snails making some love?
I was not home and so never saw spawning if there was any, I lost about 6 fishes so far and few acros colonies

Looks like some kind of bacterial bloom, which would drop oxygen levels for fish
what can I do about it if it is this?

Not sure what to do next cause the house also smells like the ocean now
You’ll want surface agitation and put an airstone inside the tank. If you have another system, I would try to save some pieces if you can.

Params are fine? Anything different recently that triggered this?

Any kids in the house that may have dumped something in the sump unbeknownst to you?

In any case, I would aerate the water as much as you can, continue doing water changes and set up temporary UV sterilizer, carbon reactors and mechanical filters if you have the equipment lying around.

about 90% of acros are melted, skin is just falling off
no other tanks to put the corals in

only thing I did was dose some ammonium bicarb to up my nitrates and it only went from 3 to 6

no kids, nobody was home at all
left the house around 1230, got a call from my brother at 930

I have a uv sterilizer, carbon reactor and a reef mat

Right now, I would stick with carbon, a series of WC and add lots of oxygen. It will save what you have alive. If you have to, buy some saltwater from the LFS (if they are trusted). Pull as much of the dead stuff out of the tank as you can.

It could have been some type of bloom, which will drop oxygen, and it just chain reacts from fish to acro's.

Was it the first time you are dosing the ammonia bicarb? Or did you have a new batch of ammonia bicarb?

I would also check your UV sterilizer...see if anything happen with the sleeve and bulb. Make sure it is not cracked.

And do you have a controller APEX or Hydros? See if anything jumps out like ORP drop, high temp, etc.

So sorry about the loss.

Not sure if related but I’ve over-dosed Loudwolf’s Ammonium Chloride (NH4Cl) and killed off all my coralline algae a few months ago. I’ve lost a few SPS frags but all fish made it. So it’s likely a similar scenario here?

Given multiple fish death, I would pay attention to ammonia as well.

Sorry to hear, but if you figure it out, please let us know. how much ammonium bicarbonate did you dose and what size tank? I started dosing ammonium bicarbonate yesterday to raise nitrates. dosed 10 ml in 100 gallon tank.

So sorry...i know the feeling. By chance do you have an Apex to see the logs? Not sure what could cause a catastrophic crash like that in 9 hours...dosing pump stuck on? Heater failure? Do you have any inverts that release toxins if it got stuck in a pump?

Dang, that's heartbreaking. Sorry about all the SPS loss.

Been through a crash before, and I know it's really hard to stop a crash once it gets going. Hopefully, you can save some of the LPS and softies.

Update: All acros dead, had moved some to another tank but they just started peeling

Tank is starting clear up

I don’t have an ammonia check so wasn’t able to check for ammonia
