So here is something I don’t understand. I’ve been having issues with getting nitrates to read. I’ve tried with my Red Sea pro kit and a buddy tried on his test kit. Both came up snake eyes. In all honesty I’ve never been able to get nitrates to read in my 150 setup over the last year.
About 3 months back I dialed the skimmer pump all the way to the lowest setting hopping that the skimmer wouldn’t strip so much out of the water. Around this time my test results where
No3 0.0
Po4 0.12
Then last month was getting
No3 0.0
Po4 0.08
So 3 weeks ago I turned off the skimmer altogether and took it out for cleaning.
Two weeks ago my results were
No3 0.0
Po4 0.04
Then this morning my results are
No3 0.0
Po4 0.02

I’m guessing the fuge is way over doing it’s job.
I have been have a big issue with a few of the sps frags. Three of them have been STNing over the last few weeks. Some look great and other look pale as a ghost.
For fish I have 3 tangs, 3 leopard wrasses, a maroon clown, and a file fish.
I feed twice a day. A 1”X1” square of frozen around 11am then the auto feeds pellets at 4pm and every other day I add a table spoon of phytofest when I get home from work around 2am.
The fuge is about 15g and the light is an ethereal that runs at 100% 12 hours a day. I usually harvest about a 4 gallon bucket of cheato every month.

I guess my next step is to turn run the light on the fuge for 8 hours a day and see what happens in two weeks.

Your fuge is removing everything. Especially if you are harvesting that much.

Are you doing supplemental dosing for your algae or frequent water changes? The nutrients that algae uses to grow are used by SPS as well. If you are not supplementing that some how you will reach a point where those nutrients are stripped for both the algae and the SPS IME.

I have low nutrient issues as well despite feeding a ton. It is my preference to just continue to feed more so the fish and coral have an ample amount of food. I feed flake/pellet/reef roids 4x a day, and frozen soaked in ammino every other day. I just set up an ammino acid on a dosing pump as well. All in the hopes to get a more sustained presence of phosphate and nitrate.

Funny, 12 years ago before I found carbon dosing I would have killed for this problem.

Good luck.

So yep the refuge it stripping out all the food source. Well I feed corals at night when I get home from work. I was feeding every other day a table spoon of phyto fest and 10ml of RS AB+ but I ran out of AB+ Monday morning. I am cultivating a 5 gal bucket of phytoplankton that I was planning to set a doser to dose phyto a few times a night. But till then I’m going to reduce the lighting on the cheato to see if po4 or no3 levels start to rise.

For real I would have killed to have this problem in my old 300g.

I have the same issues which im totally fine with. Doing water changes with almost 300g of water volume would suck. I just dose PO4 and NO3 to keep them at where I want them.

Ah ok, I’m running an old Hydra 26 with no problems but was thinking of switching to a full refugium light like a Kessil A360x
