Hello all

posting in the off chance this works out. Does anybody happen to have a quarantine setup running that can take fish? I will absolutely pay you to do this.

for context, I quarantined all fish a couple years back and just ordered a clam and ich is now on the tank. The thing is I have a newborn at home that just got home from the NICU and I do not have the space to quarantine fish.

Is the clam the only invert you have in the tank? Might be easier to move /rehome the clam vs moving all the fish. If they already showing signs of ich stressing them out more could make it worse. Then try hypo salinity treatment. Understand your situation is tough but might be the best only/solution .

Hyposalinity - I’ve done this before for velvet and advise people to never do this again. In the end, I still lost almost all livestock! You’ll have to slowly drop salinity and not sure if the OP has enough bandwidth to do this.

I’ve dealt with ich many times now, across multiple tanks — provide good water quality and feed well, fish will recover. You’ll do more harm than good trying to catch them for QT. So if it’s my tank, don’t try to QT and focus all my attention on my newborn, which is way more important than fish.

Not to mention youll probably wreck your aquascape to catch them all

I've shut down my quarantine systems for now, but can offer some information.
It would likely be best to just get rid of the fish to someone who will quarantine them and keep them as you'll need to keep your tank without fish for 11 weeks to get ich out of your system.
Unless you have another tank that you can house the fish after they are quarantined and hold for the 11 week period..

It’s a full SPS tank so no in tank treatments unfortunately. Going to have to get them out
How big is your tank and how full of corals and rock? Catching fish can be a huge ordeal. Last time i had to catch a wrasse we had to basically empty the tank and rake egg crate from one side of the tank to the other through the sand lol. It can also lodge itself into a hole in a rock to the point of no return. Of you're able to temporarily remove the rock and corals into a bin to catch the fish that would be best. Otherwise its a fish trap and that could take awhile.

Maybe practice ich management for now (selcon soaked food, frozen food w/ garlic, UV, and water changes). Until your schedule and availability opens up. Ich can be managed, not brook or velvet, so just make sure what you have.

Back in the days, ich was part of the hobby.

THIS ^.

I have ich on 3 of 4 tanks - even with ich-magnets tangs such as Blue, Powder Blue, and Achilles. Ich comes and go but doesn’t spread to all the livestock like people feared. Feed well and run a good UV will go very far.

In fact, my Achilles was covered in ich 2 months ago after 4 years without any new additions. A few other fish also got infected but all recovered - just feed heavy with nori, frozen, and pellets.

Edit: I’ve had brook that wiped out all my clownfish and velvet that wiped out almost all inhabitants. However, Ich can be managed and you have time. Don’t panic and create a bigger problem. This is my view & experience. I will defer to the medics and experts. Good luck!

PS - if people don’t want their “sick” fish, I’ll take them and give them a good home. :)

Taking fish out for 11 weeks will probably cause nutrient and other instability. Most likely sps will suffer. Fish don’t die from ich in healthy tank. I would rather practice ich management rather than ich eridication if u already have a mature system. Risky and difficult trying to do ich eridication at this stage. Just my 2cents.

if u got velvet / brooks, that’s a different story.
