Hi, this is from my post on RDO a few year old or so. thought we could use it here....

Hi all,

I am compiling a Definitive List of Protein Skimmers for the new reefers on this board. I want you to chime in with make of your skimmer.

list it like this

manufacturer: Euroreef www.euro-reef.com
model: RS 8-2
type: needle wheel impeller
Pump: sedra 5000... If you have a different pump list it and why you chose it
tank size: 150 gallon
notes: tips on adjustment and maintenance

If you have a pic of your skimmer in operation.. post it

I will edit the email to list the favorites of reefers and then a final page will be added of all skimmer manufacterers and the types they make.

Here is a partial list so far....
if you have a skimmer that is listed here but no one has posted their info...please feel free to post. this will help when you are shopping for a skimmer. i know I want to see pics in order to make a good decision..

This is a great thread Ben. I'll post some pix of the skimmers I am using or have used in a bit. I think info such as these will definitely help someone when choosing a skimmer. I know I wished I had all this info when shopping for mine.

manufacturer: H&S
model: A200
type: needle wheel impeller
Pump: 2xEheim 1260
tank size: 500 gallon total volume system
notes: I had to restrict the air intake in order to keep the skimmer cup from overflowing. This thing is a beast. I skim pretty wet and have to empty the cup every other day. The skimmate is a nice medium dark tea color.

I run a MRC 2 dual beckett. It is powered by a GenX-55. Poeple swear up and down that two becketts require the GenX-70, but MRC repeadly told me no, so I stayed with the 55...perhaps if I added height to the skimmer (available with a riser extender from MRC). Mine is the standard MRC2 height. I also bought the waste collector. Best purchase!! Saved me several times from floods, especially while I was curing my LR.

The skimmer was easy to dial in, contrary to the rumblings I often hear with respect to beckett skimmers. The power consumption sucks, but other than that, which was a choice I made after being very unhappy with modified pumps to be NW driven (years ago), I am VERY happy with the skimmer. I think it could skim the fish right out of my tank if there wasn't a strainer of the pump intake! Very powerful.

I recently added ozone, as well as experimenting with vodka dosing. Holy crap does it collect some rank skimmate...

I'll post a pic of mine soon (the real one, not the leaf net :p). I'm using the LifeReef I got from you but modified it after repairing my crack job to run on a NW injection instead of as a venturi skimmer. It works incredibly well!
