I basically said this same thing last week ("So long, and..."). I blamed the inaction of the mods on their own lack of willingness or perhaps even lack of vision as to what should be acceptable behavior from the users.
Well, my opinion has changed.
They are only allowed to do whatever they are told, and have to operate within those boundaries.
Having a cohesive approach towards what's acceptable and having the teeth to enforce sanctions for poor behavior by bad actors is critical in any sort of societal structure. I think they know what should/should not be acceptable, however IMO at this point, they have no "teeth", as they are only allowed to do whatever they are told, and have to operate within those boundaries.
My understanding is that those boundaries are not allowing the type of discipline required for this situation.
I've never had any issues with ANY mod here personally, as I understand they are just trying to do their jobs. I have disagreed with somewhat "loose" usage of the "B" word, and most definitely have had my issues with lack of discipline regarding bad actors.
However, they can only do what they can do. I think now - after the last week or so - they understand that they need to push for more abilities regarding disciplinary actions. This place HAS turned into a zoo - no doubt! - but I think the mods will be pushing VERY hard for the ability to do time outs and break out the hammer if necessary.
My apologies to ALL the mods here; my intent was good, however I regret the method which I employed to try to get the issue to bubble to the top (in fairness to myself, I HAVE made this plea many times privately). In all honesty, I didn't see that I had much other choice if I was to try to incite change.
IMO we should let them get together in a huddle and decide where to go from here. I'm positive they are aware of the issue and will be working behind the scenes to determine proper disciplinary actions as well as refine what "acceptable" behavior is...
I know this sounds like the pot calling the kettle black coming from me, but I think everyone should just let them do their things and not harp on the problem any more. They know there's a huge problem - the people have spoken! - and now they need to be given the opportunity to act on it.
