My Tank Build
#41
I would give it a few days to see if the noise level goes down. I'm laying in bed right now, and can hear my mp60 running, but can't hear the gyre.
My second beta took 4 weeks to settle in. Now it's super quite on full power. Now the wp's r loader then the gyre. And don't get me started on my 4 month old mp60.
I do currently have my gyre at 75% on pluse mode and the mp60 at 40% on reef crest. Together the two pumps do a great job on my 300.

Sweet! Subscribed. Love the natural wave effect like a real wave crashing down with bubbles...

Well after reading the other thread most people said they had it in reverse mode and it was loud until they switched it. Well I had it on correctly but when I put it in reverse mode it actually quieted down.

I played with it for a while and I actually like the alternating Mode. I flipped the whole thing and it blew all my sand directly under it everywhere lol

I have it set correctly now and I like that it kisses my sand when it alternates in reverse mode. But thanks I'll try changing out the bearings. I think I'm done for tonight lol. Just have to upload the videos
What do you mean by having it in reverse mode? I hope I can quiet mine down.

In the video there was an sps large frag/mini colony that was holding on for dear life....hope it didnt break off.
What will be interesting also is what g-tank mentioned, bubbles. Almost every single video or picture I have seen with the gyre has bubbles created. So many of us go to some extreme lengths to keep micro bubbles out of our displays so I wonder how many reefers will go another direction due to that concern in mind. Just something else to discuss, is all.

Well the pump can pump in one direction "forward" and then it can spin in the reverse direction "reverse".

For me, I'm still a little confused because I don't know which was the pump is supposed to face. Once installed you have to twist the heads so that it faces the correct way.

This is what took me the longest to set up because you have to play with it so that it can face the way you want it without creating too much surface agitation or too much flow downward.

Oh and in reverse mode for me it's quieter. I'm assuming from the fins that forward is clockwise which is what it shows in the videos. In the videos the pump sucks from behind and pushes out forward over the top which means clockwise is forward.

The symbol for forward is "counterclockwise" and the symbol for reverse is "clockwise"

Haha chopped up that mini colony for rap and now it's a big nub. I moved it there but don't know what I will do to it.

Now don't get me wrong. Everyone reading as well as yourself should not be discouraged by the bubbles. I had it on incorrectly. I have fixed it and the thing is amazing at not bringing bubbles into the tank. The way it's designed I love that it does not create bubbles being so close to the surface. I'll post another video when I get a chance. I didn't get to post a real video as I took a long time trying to get it right and I didn't like the other videos I made

Thanks for the review, Steve. Very helpful.
Overall so far I am loving it. Woke up the morning and it's not as loud as I thought. Maybe the erie silence of 1am made it seem loud but nothing I can't get used to. It seemed to have quieted down but it's not silent at all

The controller is nice but confusing at first. It looks like there is a power button in the middle that is not a button and does nothing. I don't like that you can't see the controller at night. Black on black. But I do like the controller, it's cool.

who is baller enough to:
1. put 1 gyre on the side of the tank plus 1-2 on the back of the tank & alternate flow from side-side vs front-back
2. let gyre flow meet at 90' angles
3.ditch all other power heads

Make me a believer!!! Because at $300 each, seems way too inexpensive (compared to $400-600 vortex & tunze pumps). If this is wrong, i dont wanna be right!

I retract my other statements about cost/worth. This thing is definitely worth the price . Don't know about an mp60 as I don't have one but i like it as much as my mp40.
