Hi everyone, I found this site hoping to meet all reefers from all wakes of life (beginners to advanced). I'm a big fan of nano tanks and I've been in the freshwater scene for quite some time but I'm ready to finally try saltwater as I've been caught too long wandering through the saltwater section of various lfs. I'm a sponge when it comes to knowledge so I hope to learn as much as a I can from everyone and I'm looking forward to the adventure that awaits ahead :wavey:

Are there local meets that socalireefs hosts? I hope to learn the dos and don'ts to keeping a successful nano reef tank.
My tank is about 14Gallons total water volume. It's been running for around 7-8months. I don't have a skimmer, just a refugium and a little bit of a filter wedged between baffles in my fuge. They say smaller is harder. I try to keep it simple. When it comes to my tank, the main thing to stay on top of is adding the evaporated water (easier with auto top off). Next is to make sure it's clean (algae and floating debris). Don't over do the lights.. (my light is way overkill for my tank). water changes for stable parameters but you could dose. Water changes help clean. Try to keep stuff level so if your pH is low instead of dosing maybe add more air. Bringing the pH .1 consistently I think is better than just having the ups and downs. Ive heard at 7.7ph your corals don't build on their skeletons. Mine usually sits 7.8-7.9 because I don't dose anything. Also recommend looking at the tank. If you look at it then you know if a coral is acting funny. Then you can research why and fix the problem before it becomes a bigger problem.

Thanks so much for the heads up.

Haha. I have spent less on my small tank than some people have spent on their lighting (i.e. People with 2-3 Hydra 52HDs).
But I totally say the same thing to anyone that ask about it. "I don't recommend starting a tank but if you do it's awesome."

On another forum a guy said, "it's about $1000 per 10 gallons."
