    Help with Alkalinity stabilization

I’m not really concerned with the trends, but more so bringing out the best possible colors. However, I’m mostly concerned with how system stability changes as a reef tank matures. This will help me prepare for what is to come in the future. Once again thanks for your input

Acros - Cut to Order & WYSWYG

I’d watch for your nutrients on such a young tank. You may see that your pieces aren’t as colorful because your nitrates and phosphates are not steady if you are still in the cycling period.

Acros - Cut to Order & WYSWYG

Best advice I was given, if you can manage to color up a cheap acro, you are ready for the more expensive pieces. Also you save money if you kill everything

    Help with Alkalinity stabilization

Thanks, the tank is stable at 9.7 dKH now. I’m not too concerned about the number, but as long as it’s stable and things are growing. In the future, how would I go about increasing nutrients to the tank slowly as I move to the next stage of reefing, from frags to colonies? I’m not sure what to...

Hey guys i need some help!

If you have any 2-Part (i.e. Calcium Chloride and Sodium Bicarbonate), you can use the BRS reefing calculator to find out how much to dose of both to increase 0.5 dKH / day. For example, if you are hovering at ~6dKH and your target is 9dKH, use the calculator to input your volume (200gal)...

    Help with Alkalinity stabilization

I just noticed something, could my drop in Alk consumption (i.e. higher alk due to less of it being consumed and accumulating) be a result of less coralline algae growth as well?

    Help with Alkalinity stabilization

I figured that Nitrate might have affected the corals, such as “browning”, or simply reacted negatively to the sudden change in nutrients. Before pinpointing the exact reason for calcium and alkalinity uptake change, I know that nitrate and phosphate don’t directly affect alkalinity levels at...

For frags it’s fine, if you find that they’re browning, try raising par by 10% and wait a month. Over time, as they grow, they’ll branch up which has higher par values anyway.

    Dosing pump

You get what you pay for in this hobby. I’ve found myself often buying and replacing cheap equipment which ended up costing more than if I would have bought a decent kit at the start. I’d say if you want to buy something, go for it, find the reviews and make your decision based on that.

Should I remove my protein skimmer on my established reef?

For the time being, heavy daily feedings is what keeps my nutrients in check but barely detectable on the Hanna checker po4 and nyos nitrates test. Some may say If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, and this is somewhat true in the hobby. Rather than play mad scientist and risk putting my tank...
