My Tank Build

Hey guys, excited that I’m feeling the reef bug again.
we recently moved to a larger office which only meant larger tank.
Old tank was a 300g 72x36x27 which was setup on March 2016
Here’s a pix of the tank through the years

And in May 2020
I got a call from my alarm company around 2am that we had break-In. I quickly made it to the office to find cops inside with their guns drawn. They cleared the office but mentioned the office was flooded. I automatically thought of my reef tank.

I walked into this

Turns out one of my staff accidentally left the RODI water running into the sump over the weekend and flooded the tank and office. So we had a break in and a tank crash all in the same day. I was devastated. With daily water changes, I was able to save all the fish but unfortunately lost all the corals and inverts. This was a huge setback, and the tank went FOWLR since then.

My new office tank is 96x43x30 by advanced acrylic.

Currently in the building stages and adding the finishing touches to the wall that the tank is sitting in.
I transferred all the fish and livestock last weekend but still need to do the plumbing and get together all the equipments.

Hoping you guys can help me build this tank. I’m kind of out of the loop for latest and greatest equipments. First thing I want to tackle are the lights. Any suggestions on a tank this large and deep? Looking to keep a mixed reef.

If you had a good success prior, don’t think you need to reinvent the wheel

Previous tank ran ATI 8bulb 8 bulb T5s with XHO LEDs. I could run same fixture with an additional fixture but prefer to go all LEDs this time around. Hoping to save some electricity and to be honest, wasn’t changing the bulbs out freq enough.

Easy answer is just go radions. Most dummy proof with best results. Mount them high and you’ll be fine.

With lighting- I’m a budget style reefer- usually get used and second hand equipment due to funds availability lol. A lot of my stuff was givin to me or sold very cheap- I love buying break downs or complete systems! Best bang fir yourself buck lol.
But if tou have a budget that allows tou to get new and fancy stuff - there are a ton of options out there.

but I have to say the t5 (led combo) is the best blanket of light(that I have tried) and still get some shimmer and blues - there are some options out there (that I have not had the opportunity to try) that are pricy but may give you the results you want- the Orphek Atlantic fixture look super cool- all led but more of a blank of light. They are pricy! But these would be my “dream lights” lol.
Just something to look into. Good luck my friend and can’t wait to see what you do!

Orpheks work, but any issues is a pain to deal with. Ecotech is A breeze to deal with, and prices are about the same per fixture

Awesome looking tank and sorry about what happened to the old one. It was beautiful.
Id recommend Radions for lighting as well. Set it and forget it for me and coral has grown really, really well under them.

The framing is finally done! The doors weren’t ideal but it’s nice to see it in a finished state. I ended up going with 5x orphek icon. Shout out to Danny at Kung fu corals for the lights. Only mounted 2 ATM. Will show off my fish room once I get everything organized.

That's super clean! I'm looking forward to see more of this setup.
