    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

I don't have much experience with using the VorTech for a wave. My experience with tanks similar in shape to yours is that it takes more flow to generate the wave. I would imagine (2) MP60s on the back of your tank would work. You also wouldn't need to really hide them since they would blend...

    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

Yeah, that's the truth. Just to put it into perspective, 30 dB is about as loud as a whisper. I helped out with this test and I can tell you that the new QD is very quiet! If you currently have a VorTech and the noise bothers you then I am sure you'll be happy with the upgrade. If you set...

    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

Yeah, there are a lot of different ways to interpret the info. My numbers are actually not correct, I used a "power conversion". I think the most commonly used reference is SPL (sound pressure level). With SPL a 20 dB change would be 10x difference and 15 dB is just above 5x or 80% SPL...

    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

I'm not sure about these pumps but in general, when bearings go bad they go bad quickly. Also, a lot of heat is generated from bad bearings so I would expect them to get pretty hot. I think it's worth upgrading the driver regardless. You should see an improvement in noise no matter what...

    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

I know, it seems counterintuitive but it does make sense once your realize what the new driver is doing. The roughness of the old MP40 was mostly due to poor timing of the signals to the motor. The new driver refines these signals resulting in smooth and quiet operation.

    EcoTech QuietDrive MP40wQD Sound Test

Yes, you're going to see a huge improvement with the driver. If you upgrade the wet side down the road you'll get just a small decrease in noise.
