    Wood thickness for tank riser

I have a prefab stand that is a little too short. I'd like to raise it atleast 6", maybe even 8. I'm thinking of constructing a riser using 1x6 or 1x8 for the sides, front and another in the middle---> |_|_|. Rear is open to save on having to buy 2 boards. Top will be 1/2 plywood. Would this be...

Flooding of back side of an AIO

I'm assuming if the power goes out and a siphon occurs the water will flow back and level off at the level on the display side correct? So even if the returns are too low and the water level of display side never breaks below them the water should equal out? I can see that if the display side...

    ...Coral Photography

Here's some general photography tips to help you get better results. 1. Use a tripod or place camera on something steady 2. Shot in RAW so you can use a photo editor to tweak colors and white balance 3. Turn off all other lights to avoid reflections and mixing of light types 4. Manually set...

    AIO media caddys

My plan is to make 2 media caddys to fit inside the area behind the dual overflows. I'm using 1/4" black acrylic and black egg crate. I got the acrylic yesterday and got them cut to size on the tile table saw. They will be U shaped with the front open to easily remove whatever media is used...

Finally jumping back in after 2 years

The stand came in and I got it assembled last night. It's a metal one so has no top shelf. Would 1/2" plywood be enough or 3/4" to be on the safe side. It's only about 30g for the display area. Also, does anyone know where I can get some foam padding for cheap? Something big enough on amazon is...

Finally jumping back in after 2 years

Wow can't believe it's been 2 years. Anyways I still have my AIO sitting in the garage along with just about everything else needed to get it up except for a stand. Was gonna have that custom built but the builder dropped out of the deal. I do have one coming in today. :whoo: Got a new return...

    Textured wallpaper on a stand

That's what I'm worried about too but I think if I roll on a thin layer of strong glue it should be ok. I know wallpaper glue will probably not hold on for very long.

    Textured wallpaper on a stand

I'm thinking of other ways to finish a stand being built rather than just painting or staining and thought covering it with textured wallpaper might look pretty good. I foresee the only issue might be moisture from splashes and drips but I think if I'm diligent in wiping it quickly it should be...

    My new AA custom AIO

Turns out the flow adjustment was turned way down when I checked last night. Turned it to max and now getting good flow. I can now see small debris in the tank getting churned up. Stand will be ready after J4 but will still need to be stained. Probably won't be til late July before it gets wet.
