weaver, I'm interested in the 1/4hp chiller. What pump did you use to run it? Also wondering if the 1/4hp JBJ worked great for you? I was thinking of putting the 1/5 hp on my 55 that way I could use use it when I upgraded next year to my 150-180. Should I go with the 1/4hp. I'm assuming it would just cool my 55 tank quicker and use less energy as it would be more efficient?

When you upgrade they say the best way to hookup the chiller is to t-off at the return pump. For the smaller tank I would use a pump with at least 960gph, but that all depends on the length of tubing you need. The chiller will cool the smaller tank fast. I set it up on the 135g that I have running in the garage and it cooled it good. Over 100 degrees in the garage. I have a pump that I can sell you for the chiller maybe we can make a deal for both.

I was planning to set the unit in my utility closet. The closet doors will remain open and the room the closet is in is air conditioned. I was planning initially to set the submersible pump in my sump and then route it out and over to the unit, which would be anywhere from 3 feet away to as much as 8 foot way. The hole in my wall from the tank into the closet is around the 3 foot level so there would be some head on the pump for line in and out. I was planning to return back into the sump, but could return up and into the tank. Is the unit quiet, the closet is actually in my daughter's room? Also what size pump do you have and is it submersible? Size of the pump may be my biggest issue as my sump is small. I have a mag 5 in the return section. I'm still concerned that the 1/4hp unit might be too big for my tank, no, or will it simply run more efficiently?

The chiller run quiet. The extra pump that I purchased is a Queit One that runs at 760gph. It is a small pump and is brand new never used. I think that as longs as your plumbing was around six feet you should be good. I dropped the price for the chiller to $360.00.
