I am looking for suggestions for stocking a 20g long Nano tank. I have researched the usual selections such as clowns and gobies, but I am hoping to get some insider insight. This will be my only tank so personality and flare are valued highly.

Thanks!

No absolute must haves, but I think the fiance would like a clown. I haven't been to enough quality stores to have found something that I am absolutely sold on. Like I said because of the limited space personalities are something that I would like at least with a few. I think I would like to avoid any overly aggressive species (like a frogfish/angler?) that would eliminate the majority of selections. I enjoy variety and filling out each area of the tank.

A pair of clowns are always nice. There are quite a few designer types out there to choose from. Firefish also add some nice color and you can keep those in pairs as well.

not so much work but what design you like. However I'd steer clear of maroon and tomato clowns. Maroons are very territorial especially in a 20g and tomatos will easily outgrow the tank.

vendors on this forum are selling designer clowns for very good prices. Check em out

For clowns I'd stick to Ocellaris. Plenty of designer clowns to choose from. I'd only get one because you'll have the clownfish and it'll be less bioload than having 2 which means you can replace that second with another fish. Get an anenome for the clown and you're set for lots of personality. Ask Schnitzel how to get them to host...he's like the worlds foremost expert on the topic...we're super lucky he participates in our lowly forum, lol.

Midas Blenny's are awesome and have loads of personality but they're jumpers so get a screen.

I stand by the tailspot blenny but if you get a midas the midas will likely bully it.

Citron Gobys are cool if you don't plan on having SPS.

How does this list look?
1 Small Shrimp Pairing Goby
1 Tailspot Blenny
1 Clown Goby
(That's it for the floor/rock dwelling guys. I think a Midas Blenny is too large)
1-2 Ocellaris Clown
1 Firefish

I know 5/6 is a pretty large number, but most are very small fish and I will provide ample rock work/caves. I will eventually try a few corals, but I don't think the tank will ever be densely populated with them due to the budget.
