Easy to clean harder to scratch
Forgot to add WILL eventually leak. Glass/Acrylic is a matter of personal preference and hardly worth arguing over. While glass is harder to scratch it still CAN be scratched. Once glass is scratched the scratch is permanent. Acrylic scratches can be buffed and there is no glass that is as clear as acrylic(not even "starfire"). They even sell kits to repair the scratches without draining the tank.

Also the only thing keeping the water in the tank with a glass tank is a thin bead of silicone. While this bead rarely fails catostrophicaly it can fail. I was stitting in a living room as a teenager when my friends 200g arrowana tank ruptured at the seem. 200g on the floor in an instant is no fun. That tank was only a few moths old and purchased brand new.

After experiencing that I have always prefered acrylic. If you pick it up used it is generally no more expensive than glass and can be buffed back to perfection with a little effort.

So with all of the benefits of acrylic it seems like a moot point that glass is "harder" but not impossible to scratch. There is a reason that anytime you see a large (500g+) tank in a department store or restaraunt, casino, or public aquarium they are all acrylic. That reason is not that glass is better.

That being said, the OP is selling a brand new tank for a fantastic price and I am sure it will perform well for whoever purchases it for quite some time. GLWS

A scratch in glass can be polished out with grit. Yes glass does have a bead of silicon holding together. Personal experience my toddler smashing a Toy against my 180g AA tank left gouges. Hahaha I even told my wife "That will not buff out" went out and bought my 225g glass new for $500 couldn't beat that deal. Acrylic can bow overtime unless massively oversize thickness.

Glass still not better just different. Too bad your kid gouged such a nice tank. Good thing that tank wasn't glass it could have been all over the floor. I would rather have my tank bow a little than leak or rupture.

Personal preference is all it is my tank is over 8 years old was sitting dry for 2 years silicone was still perfect. Cleaning coraline algae is way easier on glass vs acrylic. I like quick maintenance and easy clean up.

Built my frag tank out of glass and sump out of acrylic. IMG_20230701_233406_606.jpg 20230418_131026.jpg

You win that 1...Coraline is a Biatch to clean off of acrylic...LOL. I am still paranoid of glass tank failures after seeing it in front of my own eyes. Holy crap that is the meanest nastiest water balloon ever. Good thing my friends parents were renting that house...LOL.

Hahahaha poor home owner. Fish tanks are not covered under homeowners insurance it's considered black water. I upgrade my tanks every 5 to 8 years. Big and bigger and they of shit size. Next tank 350g then 700g. 144X36X26 DREAM SIZE. I have a 13ft hole for it.

Nice...I operate in the same fashion just keep stepping up the size. I was away for several years and just started back up last Feb with this 40g. I am upgrading it to a new 50 this year and have 70 sitting in the garage that I still need to buff out...LOL my house and budget is small so when I get to150 I think that will be it unfortunately.
