Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I would like to share my tank setup and what I've done to it. Lets start off by saying. The reason why i love Nanocubes it's because its simple and sleek and easy to maintain, unless you make it hard for yourself. I've been seeing a lot of Nanocube with open tops. Why?... Nanocube is suppose to have its top because it's suppose to be a clean sleek look. I've noticed a lot of Nanocube with hanging lights. Don't get me wrong it's nice, but go rimless for that setup, looks a lot nicer. So i bought a cheap Chinese d120 led and modify my tank lid, so i can still have that nice sleek look. Enjoy.

Can you notice it?

I put a d120 Evergrow LED. You can find it on ebay now called MR 120 ($90) led. Your going to have to do a lot of cutting on the Nanocube lid.(ill take some pictures today) my tank has been great my torch coral was 1 head now it's 4 heads. My SPS is doing great. My great success also comes with weekly water changes. Let me know if you need anymore info. :)

What kind of led did u put in there? I'm looking to going led as well, older nano with MH. What kind of stuff have u grown with those cheap LEDs?
Why won't you just remove the cover an put a hang on an get a custom made glass to cover the top.. Saves time an during the summer you wouldn't have to worry as much of your tank heating up

I think a glass top will also keep the heat in.

Yeah my thought would be the proximity of that fixture to the water and the heat. How long has it been set up that way and what temps are you running at? A friend had the same nano cube and put some leds under the hood and they kept going out due to the salt creep and moister.

I'm contemplating on that, kind of want to leave the lid on. It'll probably be a last minute decision once I actually get it going. I'll cycle it with the MH & hopefully I'll have some sort of led by the time I'm ready to add live stock.

Actually if you do a 2 part glass top.. Which you would have to if its a jbj 28 there would be about an inches an half space between the 2 glasses if I'm not mistaken.. Which would create a little vent that would make it possible to put a small mini fan to cool the top

Oh I see. Back in the day when I had a nano cube it was nice how little they evaporate cause they are covered so that was a plus.

Nice tank anyways David I like that clam.

I need to open up that lid so I can see what I can do with it, get some ideas going, see if it's worth it.

Hey guys. I just got to my phone. I dont have a heat issue at all. My tank has been running fine. All day. The led has been running for 1 year now. The fan is on top. So no heat issue.

Great tank!!
Yes the innovative marine are rimless and I would have a 10g ato and would have to refill every 5 days because water evaporates a ton.

Welcome to SCR there is a bunch of cool people here that are friendly and supportive.

This is a neat idea! Wondering if you could have ditched the D120 case and just mounted the LED panel and fans in the hood with the transformers/switches/dimmers in your stand?
