3 Gem Tangs

I’ve always liked keeping multiple tangs in my systems usually in groupings of three or more. Just added 3 gems tangs together this week. So far so good but I figured I see if anyone has experience with multiple gems tangs in one tank? When I started in the hobby they were close to $5k per fish and they were always a treasure to see in person. Hard to get a photo of all three but he’s a couple shots. More to follow.

Just under 300 gallons. Looking to upgrade in the next year. Going to do a build thread of the 1,000 gallon when I get started.

They look like triplets in your picture

Can you tell us how you introduced them together? Did they get along from the start? I've done trio's of hippo tangs in the past, but that was by having them grow up together as babies.

I have always had luck keeping tangs in odd numbers 3,5,7 etc. It seems that they have a hard time singling out one another when there are multiples in the tank. As for this case, there really hasn't been much aggression over the last week plus. The real secret in my opinion is offering plenty of nori around the clock for them. I've been feeding 2-3 sheets per day in my 300 gallon system for the 15 tangs I currently have swimming around. I just set up an Apex Trident NP so it has been much easier to track my nutrient levels on a daily basis without having to use my Hannah testers. With the excess feeding, I've had to dose a little extra NoPox to combat the rise of NO3 and PO4. The only other thing I've done that seems to help is just adding a few other fish in the system at the same time so there is a lot going now to distract them from each other. The LFS had a deal on baby vlamingii tangs so I grabbed three of those as well. Also added my first borbonius anthias. Hope this helps!

That rainbow monti on the back wall is cool. I always wondered what it would look like.

My PBT tangs are major bullies, and chases all of the other tangs. Don't want to get rid of them, so I just live with it. But seeing you with all these tangs in triplets is making me jealous of them getting along like bros. Sigh.

Trying to get it to cover the whole wall. Every time it starts to branch out and steal light I break the piece off and glue it back. At this rate it’ll be covered in 6 months. You have two PBTs in the same system?

Nice! I’m just getting into the forum game. Already met some great people trading frags. I had to sit in front of the tank for almost an hour to get them all in one frame.

One Powder Blue and one Powder Brown. LOL.

My powder brown may have a mental issue, a little bit of psycho in him. He is trying to bully my magnet algae scraper when I'm cleaning the glass. Haha. I do get a kick out of it, I find that pretty funny. But he zooms by every time I scrape. He also won't let any other tang (besides the powder blue) eat from the nori clip. I had to add another nori clip on the side of the tank so the other tangs can eat some.

I think not bc everytime you scraped the algae off, the glass is clean and it probably spot the mirror image of itself thinking that is a new fish.
