Came up with what I think would be a pretty sweet idea... what if I used a 50 gal Jack Daniels wooden rain barrel (never used for whiskey) as my auto top off reservoir? Question--will the wood affect RO water quality if I clean that sucker out like theres no tomorrow? Only thing I could think of is that there may be a possibility of acidifying the water like driftwood will in a freshwater tank... Need some experts on this one!

Heres a couple pictures of what I am thinking:

As icing on the cake maybe one of these on top!?!? Only if I can wire the Tunze ATO cords through the top rear of the barrel and reduce the risk of any drinks getting inside...

This will be going right next to my bar area anyway where the aquarium is next to so it seems very fitting. The tank is a 135 gal 36 x 36 x 24 rimless so it powers through ATO water. Would be nice not to have to refill the ATO all of the time.

Suggestions???

Ya that's plenty big enough to put an ATO reservoir inside...if ur worried about the wood.

Have u seen autotopoff.com? I have their dual float switch setup, with a solenoid and I have my RO/DI going strait to my sump. Then u never have to fill a reservoir again. Super convenient

The only problem I have with using float switches are the fact that they are eventually going to fail (which is why I like the laser eye in my Tunze ATO so much). I live in an apartment so I have to check, double check, and triple check the plumbing just in case. Had a 25 gallon spill from a clogged external overflow about a year ago and that scared the hell out of me! Never using one of those again!!!

I work at a winery....the wood effects the wine that sits in a barrel (new barrels even more so), so I would have to guess that it will effect the RO water too....
