Two things

Is it possible to post pictures in this forum from an iPad?

And, is there a way to set an alert so that you know when your thread has been replied to?

both are possible but is easier to post pictures using tapatalk or photobucket. you should receive email notifications if you have automatic subscriptions turn on under settings.

Tapatalk is the app for $5 right? And as far as notifications, I see them for private messages but your reply here (thanks by the way), is there a way for it to tell me there's a reply to my thread or do I need to come back and check it?

If you use tapatalk you cab get notifications by clicking the outlined star at top of each thread... Once you selected it it will alert you every time someone has replied to said thread...

Also in tapatalk in the notifications settings you can set it to notify you when someone quotes your post

Def get tapatalk well worth the money
