I was just looking around Marine Depot and found this product. Its getting good reviews, on removing scratches on your reef tanks. You can do it while its wet ! Don't have to drain the tank.....

That kit is good. A few yrs back my son got some sand grains in my mag float & turned my acrylic tank into an etch-a-sketch. I used a similar kit and the arcylic fines didnt hurt a single sps. I collected the debris with a filter sock.

Keep in mind it takes some time & muscle. Took me 30min for each 12"x12" section (8 hours for my 75g). My neighbors told me they heard some bezerk foul mouth guy cursing all night. & you have to do an entire panel, not just 1 scratch or part of the front pane.

You make a better kit with 6 grains of sand paper: like 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400?, 1500 & drain the tank to 3 inches & use a cordless drill with a circular sand paper holder like for buffing out headlights. Just keep it wet at all times & be done in a fraction if the time.

Good luck!

This is why I hate acrylic. My first 3 tanks were acrylic. Once u go glass, u never go back
I can live with scratches. But not leaks. Theres no way im shelling out another $25k to replace the first floor of my wife's walnut hardwood floors.

Besides, very large tanks are acrylic. the huge pubic aquariums are acrylic. Starfire is good for <300 gallons, otherwise your putting 2tons of weight in a glass box- not good if dont have concrete and a 2 1/2" drain on the floor nearby.

I love my acrylic.
I like the safety of the acrylic. With all the flow the we have in our reef tank , specially 2 waveboxes, I will worry about the silicone holding the tank. Leemar void the warranty for having powerhead on the side, imagine if you have 2 waveboxes in one side.

I hate the scratches but I can live with it.

I may be doing a upgrade soon, and now i'm considering acrylic.

Question: I have mp40's, the acrylic will be 3/4 thick. Any one use mp40 on their acrylic ? and any issues with it holding on the wall ?
