I have one Purple Tang, and want to add other tangs. I hear that they may fight. What is the best approach to add more. I want to add a yellow (or two), a blue, and a sohol. There are plenty of places to hide. And plenty of algae to eat.

i think the aggression is mostly based on shape, ive seen purples and blues together all the time with no problems, yellow, kind of has the same shape. one of my friends has some aggressive fish and whenever they start getting to aggressive he rearranges his tank and they aren't territorial anymore, for a few months. don't get smaller tangs than your purple that could present a problem with bullying. you could try isolation hang in tanks so they get acquainted with a physical barrier as well.

Thanks, I am also thinking about a Tomini (orange fin) tang, but they are known to be aggressive. My pruple tang is really beautiful, i dont want him to get beat up :)

what size tank do you have, and what otehr fishies do you have

And I agree with above, tangs of similar shape usually have problems, different species okay...

I have a blue hippo, and added a flimangi with no problems

but I am no expert, just what I read on these addictive forums

Good luck

I would definitely not put a Sohal in a 95g. A Sohal will out grow it very quickly and you'll end up giving him away. You might want to consider keeping the Yellows out due to being less than 120g and with a purple in there already. YThere ou should be no problem with a small to medium blue hippo.

I would QT any Tang for 4-6wks in a gradual hyposalinity to 1.009.

i agree with reef_doug, a sohal needs a much larger tank. As for adding new tangs, i have found that redoing all the rockwork just before adding the new tang helps quite a bit as the already established tang no longer has that same territory that it once did.
