Just stopped by AGE today and as I was walking in I noticed something was a little off as their frag tanks looked a little empty and only have softies and zoas rock. I was like "what happened to all the sps frags and those nice acans and Lps" . The frags tanks in the back rooms are also empty! Spoke to JW and learned they had forgotten to turn off the RO line and ended up losing all their sps ... Everything including all those nice colonies of Triton, event horizon and all the others. Dang.... That totally sucks! So sad just thinking about it :( luckily I have secured myself a few frag packs from JW over the past year. I've heard this happened to a few people and I just wondered why didn't they have some kind of safety valve to prevent unfortunate events like this???

It sucks, I heard about it a few weeks ago. JW is a good guy, and it's unfortunate that it happened to him. We should frag whatever pieces we got from him, and give them to him so he can restart his tanks up again!!!

How many have their Apex hooked up to alert them if power goes off let alone salinity issue? Mistakes can easily kill a tank, just as power outage can. I have crashed more than once and to me a crash is easier to recover from than a slow unexplained die off? Anyway we all make mistakes and maybe it would be a good idea to add a failsafe to your system this week and pass on some frags of your favorite pieces to a friend, did I mention I can be a good friend. Anyway JW will have the SPS screaming again soon.

its a manual ball valve I don't know of any safety mechanism besides a apex/ controller alarm hooked up to the system , no safety valves that I know of

If I was closer I'd bring him some goodies. I hate hearing of loss of life like that. What a bad feeling knowing that you were responsible for the death of all those critters. I hear a lot of people say "it happens", but really, it doesn't have to, not with all of the electronics and such we have these days.

Still, I feel for the guy, I am sure that he will bounce back quickly.

The giving frags idea is a great one, but I'm not too sure a guy who turns over colony after colony has the time to wait on a charity frag to grow out. I could be wrong, but JW is more on the business side of things. He'll most definitely bounce back, but it will come from his purchase of colonies and reselling them as frags. Quick turnover. That being said, I would be inclined to hook him up with any of the aoa frags I've collected if he should need them, but I'm sure he's looking for a "quicker" financial recovery. Jmho

I asked what happened and matt their employee said another employee forgot to turn off the ro system for their coral tanks.
