Hey guys is it normal for me to have to dose alk every day to keep it at 7-8? I have mostly LPS with a clam and 3 SPS coral in a 30g cube. My calcium goes down steadily I only dose calcium every 2-3 days.

how long have you had the tank and how big? I have 3 tanks and I'm experiencing it on one of the tank. It is the newest and had the least amount of livestock/corals and yet it's draining my alk like crazy. It's been up for 4 months now and I just dose it. I'm just used to it now.

Unlike you though, I never had to dose calcium or mag

I have the same issues with my tank. I now add a half teaspoon per gallon of top of water to my ATO and i also add 8ml of Bionic ALK. Everyday to keep it at about 9.5 dkh And my tank is 2 years old and is mostly LPS with just recently adding more SPS. I think since i started adding sps its ben draining faster especially my calcium, im adding 40 ml daily of b ionic ca. to keep that at 440 ppm

very normal. the type of salt you use, and potency of AlK product you use, will affect the amount you will have to dose.

if you are able to keep your alk stable at 10dkh and complete a large water change with saltwater that has 6dkh. you will drop the alk very fast in the tank. then with the same alkalinity that is being dosed, you would only be keeping it stable to the lower number.

Thanks everyone. I haven't done a water change in 4months. I add salt water every month because the skimmer removes some so I check salinity and add accordingly. The reason I don't do water changes is because my tank test results always read 0 nitrates 0 phosphates. I add sent essential elements once a week. And dose cal and alk. Do you guys think adding a pH buffer will help keep it more stable?

My tanks been up for just a year. Its a 30 oceanic cube with a diy sump that holds 25g total vol is about 40g. I guess it's normal for lots of ppl to have to dose

I also add 3ml to my ATO and dose 1ml to the tank every day :/ it's kinda annoying

im having the opposite problem. Granted I filled my tank with RSCP but my dkh was at 14. I did 15g WCs every 4 to 5 days for about 3 weeks and my dkh is now at 10

****! That suuuucks and that's weird. Hope all your coral is ok. Although for some reason a lot of reef salt mixes are starting to have really high alk levels. It's supposed to help coral grow and it's so your alk doesn't drop with the water change...idk I think thats more problematic.

Well I didnt have any corals in my tank. I restarted my tank; ive been told that by adding some corals I may be able to drop dkh that way.
