Here are some photos of Alyssa and Kyle's seahorses and setup!

Alyssa and Kyle's 250 gallon Marineland Deep Dimension Seahorse and reef display. Lots of Gorgonians, Sponges, Leathers, some LPS corals and more! We have both Reidi and Erectus Seahorses in this aquarium. Usually we have around two dozen Seahorses in this display. We have separate systems that we use for fry and juveniles. We also have separate systems for breeding pairs. Most of the Seahorses in our display are Seahorses that we are not focusing on breeding at the moment. We switch them out to give some a break and to selective breed.

Some photos of our fry and juveniles!

Can you describe the system a little? Flow, lighting, filtration, maintenance etc? What's involved in taking care of a seahorse tank? I have a nano that I may be willing to make into a seahorse tank.

We have 2 Ecotech Radion XR30W G3 Pro LEDs for the lighting of this display. We have a large over-sized protein skimmer for the aquarium, the Reef Octopus Regal 300EXT Recirculating Protein Skimmer rated up to 700 gallons. In addition, we run a large Bio pellet reactor. I do a 50 gallon weekly water changes on the system. This aquarium is bare bottom which helps us out a lot with keeping the aquarium clean and maintaining good water chemistry. I have had seahorse aquariums in the past with sand and I now much prefer bare bottom. I keep the temperature on the aquarium between 70-74 degrees Fahrenheit. We have a chiller for the system but instead of running the chiller we prefer to keep the house cool and the aquarium runs around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The seahorses are trained to eat at a feeding station. If you look closely at our photos you can see two shells (one on each side of the aquarium) in the rock work. We place frozen Mysis shrimp in these shells twice a day and they all know to come up and feed at these areas. Feeding at the shells is a lot cleaner than throwing a bunch of food in the aquarium and hoping it all gets eaten. The feeding stations work great for us.

If you send me an email at alyssa@pacificeastaquaculture.com I would be happy to send you over a detailed care sheet for our seahorses. We recommend a 30 gallon aquarium for 1-3 pairs of seahorses. If you are new to seahorses starting out with 1-2 pairs would be best. We recommend keeping the temperature between 70-74 degrees Fahrenheit. A pair of seahorses can usually eat about 1 cube of frozen Mysis shrimp twice daily. This is a lot of food going into an aquarium so we recommend a good protein skimmer and 10-20% weekly water changes. Keeping the aquarium water cooler in addition to good filtration helps keep nasty bacteria from getting to dangerous levels that can cause harm to seahorses.

Seahorses are very social, smart, and entertaining to watch. Our seahorses "dance" with each other every morning. They light up and get really bright in color and shake and quiver at each other. It is very cute.

Thank you for the reply and let me know if you have any questions.

Sorry about that. We are having an issue with our website right now and are working on getting it back up. Let me know if you have any questions about anything.

PacificEastAquaculture - thank you for the detailed response. I think I could handle everything except the temp. I have no central air nor the desire to run a chiller. CA energy prices are super expensive.

One thing you can try is putting a fan on the aquarium. This usually helps lower the temperature at least a few degrees and is not super expensive to run.

Here is a sneak peek of our Reidi x Erectus Hybrid Seahorse fry. This brood is four weeks old now and should be ready to go to new homes late summer. We are currently feeding them live adult brine shrimp and baby brine shrimp. You can see the adult brine shrimp in the video to give you an idea of their size right now. Most them are over an inch and they are growing quickly. These guys are super cute and we are very excited to for them to color up and for their markings to start coming in when they get bigger.

One of our new broodstock systems for breeding pairs. Three 37 Gallon aquariums and a 20 gallon sump on each system.

We are almost sold out of our current brood of Erectus seahorses, only a small handful left.
