I want to get some input on angelfish in reef aquariums. I know you shouldnt but ive seen some tanks with all different types of angels. So i want to live life on the edge of my coral and put some in my tank ahhaha. I want to know which angels would have a better behavior on not eating coral. So reefers with angels what is your input on angelfish in your reef tank.:a21:

Bellus and any type of the swallowtail angel like watanabei would be fine as they are known to be more reef safe than any other kind of angel.

I have a watanabei, flame and 2 pygmy angel in my reef tank. All doing great and never brother the corals. Going to add a bellus in the near future. Spotbreast and lamarck are also low risk.

I have a Lamarck in my tank. Really like him. Had him for a little over a year now. Been doing fine although I have an unconfirmed suspicion he's going after my zoas.

I have a goldflake, regal and interruptus in my reef. Bought them all very small and keep them well fed. They have not touched any of my SPS or any other coral for that matter, including chalices, favia, blastos and euphyllia. Knock wood they stay well behaved, but I am a risk taker.

Low risk: bellus, watanabei, masked, Japanese swallowtail

Medium risk: venustus, multibar, regal, gold flake

High risk: queen and all other Pomacanthus
disagree i had a lot of pomacanthus that never touch corals but few flame angels that do...
to tell you the truth blue tang is worst than any angels in this list

I was hard headed like you. I learn from mistakes. I kept Adding Angels one by one. And had success. One day. I put this black beauty in (melas angel). He spent every minute of its life nipping sps to sps. Just kept rounding. I spent 3 horrible days trying to catch it. Had to take All my sps out and kept it in the sump. Shut the return off so I could have water in my sump. had to catch almost All my fish since it wouldn't go into the trap. Finally causmght the bastard. Put it in the sump. Before I could give it away. It got what it deserved. Sucked into my return poor guy.

But before that bastard. It was successful. I had a flame, 2 coral beauties, and Lamarck.

Trust no angel. All of them have the capacity to eat coral. Just do a quick search of "______ angel eating coral" and you will see all types of forum responses from people that risked it. I've heard of every type of angel eating coral. I would agree that genicanthus angels are less likely to eat corals though.

I think the question should really be; What is more important in the tank? The angel or the corals?
