Another SCR growout contest?!?

Hey everyone,
SCR would love to host another grow out contest like we did a couple of years back. It was a lot of fun and excitement for everyone!

In order for another contest to happen, we need to decided if we want to stick with zoos, or try another type of coral. I was debating between, zoos, sps, or lps.

I also need a few people to help with this contest as well. We need help with distribution or the corals. People helping will have the entrance fee waived.

Cost of entrance fee will be 10 dollars. Depending on the amount of people playing that will determine the prize!

So right now we need to take a poll and see which type of coral people are most interested in...And also members willing to volunteer!
Sponsors or member who would like to donate a large coral to be fragged would also help in the decision as well!

ok, so why dont we mix this up a little. I propose that we have one SPS and one LPS and see what people can do with mixed corals. something a little different or hold 2 contests. I am game for this. the last SPS grow out challenge on reef central 2 years ago was fun.

Looks like we are leaning toward SPS...we can maybe do LPS contest next?

Anybody have a huge SPS colony they can make 15-20 frags of? Maybe a plating monti?

So if people are going sps its going to be a metal halide contest. I say zooz. I have T 5's and a halide but sps is so boring. What about Duncan. The more you feed them the faster they grow so you would actually have to work at it

That's what I was thinking too.

No it wont be as lighting is not the only factor to make corals grow. I think stable parameters are more important.

Yeah you are right. I just think sps is harder for some guys. The better the equipment( lighting,skimmer, ca reactor,ect) the better your odds. Where as palys and LPS aren't as picky even with params, so some newbs could play too.

Yea I know what you mean Travis but I have trouble also with the z's and p's before so the poll will show what the majority want t grow. Then the next one we can acomodate those that voted for some thing else.

how long would an sps grow out be for? you wont get to much growth in 2 months. or maybe i would be shocked. hey if 10 bucks get me into a contest and a new coral to grow, im game.
