Any good carpenters near Ontario? I need to convert a crate into a stand.

I'm looking to basically use this crate as a stand for the new tank.

I know I'll need to reinforce it, and I'll need to make some modifications (put a door on it, drill it for plumbing, etc.). I also want to stain it and seal it. ...but I'm not a carpenter by any means, and I'm pretty sure I'd ruin it. :-( Any recommendations??? I'm in Ontario, but I can travel within reason.

TBH, it looks pretty darn secure to me. I would be interested in knowing what the top looks like in better detail, and maybe just a joist stud once across the middle and vertical furrings or studs on all the corners, and you should be fine.

Im busy this weekend, but the following, I would be willing to help. Pm me and I'll send you my phone #.

50 gallon = approx 400 pounds of water weight. Get two heavy friends after it is reinforced to dance on it. I dance on all my home made stands.

Thanks, Nick! I was kind of thinking something along those lines (but, like I said, I don't really know what I'm doing). According to Felix at Reef Savvy, it should work fine. The crate is made of birch grade plywood and solid white pine. I'll shoot you a pm.

the way it is right now is not secure... the plywood it's on is being held by the top 2x4's... i would put a piece of plywood on top of the entire crate... it will kill the look, but will be sturdy...
