You get what you pay for.... jbj is ok with an aqualifter. I also use Innovative Marine AUQA Gadget HydroFill. I never go cheap on equipment because if that thing fails just to save a few dollars and kills everything inside, its not worth it to me.
I have the JBJ and it works good. You can invert the 2nd float switch and use it as a fail safe. Grab the JBJ one for now then you can upgrade to a tunze or something when you have more funds.
I'm using a DIY with dual floats since 2011 with no issue or being stuck. I've since added a 3rd float in reverse inside reservoir in the event I forget to refill. It would cost you bout $50 not including your choice of pump.
Tunze is best for a couple of reasons. The optical light is awesome and if the pump fails, it's like $29 to replace. If the cost for new is prohibitive then look for a used one and just plan on replacing the pump portion ($29) sooner than later
