How has everyone coped with the recent heat wave? Thank goodness it'll be over soon. I personally don't run a chiller and my system is in the garage. With 100+ temp outside, my garage got up to 90 recently. Yesterday, the tank temp got to it's highest I've seen yet - 84. I just have an 8" fan blowing across the sump on a temp controller that comes on at 80. Everything seems to be fine though. Anyone with problems?

No problems here Kenny. I just purchased a chiller a few weeks ago. It came on 2 times yesterday and 4 times on Saturday. I have it set to 81. Need to adjust my photoperiod again. I think I will change to 4:30pm to 12:30am

No chillers but the 2 fans are keeping up. This heat wave is not too bad actually. Its the humid heat waves that are killers to our reef tanks like last Labor Day weekend. Thats when we hear alot more about tank crashes.

No problems here. I don't even think the Edison bill will go up much this time.

LOL Steve. I guess not having a tank helps.

Looks like I'll put a second fan on next time another heat wave comes around just to keep things closer to 80-81.

Does one surviving yellow damsel count? Bruce put the guilt trip on me and I gave it a heater. But the line has been drawn, no chiller.
SCE bill came last week. $83.00, down from $286 the month before and a high of almost $500.

How does that song go....?
I feel good...

I am going to have to break down and get a chiller. My house gets really hot w/o the ac. I will be going on vacation soon, and I am not going to leave the AC on for a week, just for my fish. Probably cheaper (and less stressful)in the long run just to get a chiller.

All you coastal and non-SCE guys should count yourselves lucky. I may look into solar soon. Not just b/c of the tank but SCE keeps jacking their rates.

That bill is for the shop (my office). Usage last month was 387 kWh (13 per day) Last year, same month it was 1,935kWh (66 per day). Highest last year was August 2,857 (86 per day average). I should be able to get it down a little more if I remember to shut off all the lights and flush the damsel.

The house with no tanks never goes below $175.00/month.
