I have been getting some rather high readings lately since I started using the Elos Mg test kit. It's been around 1900 ppm :hmmmm:

Have not used other kits before and the last AWT test less than 2 months ago was normal. I haven't made any dosing changes so it shouldn't have shot up 600+ ppm. Just sent in another water test to AWT so we shall see.

Anyone use Elos and what kind of readings are you getting? If I want to use a different test kit, which one would you recommend?

I use Elos Magnesium test kit and have found it to be accurate.

For what it's worth, in the older test kits, the direction says the C bottle = 100ppm per drop. In the newer test kits, the direction says 80 ppm per drop (correct me if I'm wrong). I have heard that some newer boxes didn't have updated directions, but it was only specific to certain batches. You might want to double check this in the Elos forum.

Mine says 100 ppm. Even at 80 per drop, that still puts me at 1500+ ppm. Which is more reasonable, I guess. I'll find out by early next week what the AWT results will show.

Mine have come out High also Pook-is it the tool or the user?
It's probably me  What's weird is that I've stopped dosing for almost 2 weeks now and the level hasn't dropped.

If you're also using the Cal. and Alk. kits, you may be used to testing 5 ml. of tank water...

The Mag. test calls for 3 ml. of water!!!!!!!

The newer kits are measured at 75ppm per drop. If you are getting 1900 its probably really 1425 which is great. Look on your box and see if there is a sticker on it stating the new ppm measurement. I talked to Jesse about this a month or 2 ago.

Thanks for the info KEEPERZ and Brock. I'll have to check when I get back home later today. My only concern is that my kit isn't "new" by any means. It's probably 9-12 months old. I wonder if there is an expiration date on these things. Well, more things to investigate.

Well, I got my AWT results back and looks like Brock is right on. It was tested at 1415 ppm according to AWT. Looks like faulty info in the Elos instructions. I guess it's not user error afterall :D

What is AWT? It soulds like it is somewhere you send your water too to be tested? If so how much and where?

thank you just checked out their website maybe something to do on the reef tank. Dont think I need it for the fowlr tank. Does a monthly test do good I cant see spending that much on a weekly test.
