So my niece was over last week and I had no time to look at my tank. I noticed Wednesday morning before I left to work that my starfish was on my Killer Corals Spitfires, didn't think anything of it. I didn't get another chance to look at my tank until Friday night and I swear the starfish hadn't moved since I saw it Wednesday morning. So I take him off and the zoas haven't opened since Friday. Never had the starfish do anything like that anybody else have this happen to them.

its an orange linckia. I've had it over a year and its never bothered anything before which makes it even weirder. It'll climb over stuff and keep on going. This is the first time it just sat on something for the who know how long.

Fill a container with one cup of tank water and then mix one packet of furan 2 into the container. Place the zoa in the container and stir the mixture around or use a turkey baster to create a little flow so the furan gets all over the zoa. You want to leave the zoa in the mixture for about 15 minutes while creating random flow every 3-5 minutes. You can then rinse the zoa off in some tank water in a separate container to get some of the furan 2 off or just place it directly in your tank. It is recommended to place the zoa in high flow after the treatment. Repeat this treatment for three consecutive days and then give the zoa 5-7 days of rest, or I have also done this treatment every other day and then gave the zoas 3-5 days of rest and only repeated the process if needed! Let me know if you have anymore questions!

I'll give it a shot. The Furan 2 I have is made by API, is that the same one you use? I'm asking because the directions say to mix one packet for every ten gallons. I know I'm doing something completely different with it, I just want to make sure I don't overdo it. And from your experience how long after the dipping did it take for your zoas to open up.

Yup its made by API! The directions on the box are used to treat fish, the directions I follow are from coralpedia(zoaid.com) It takes a couple hours to maybe a full day for them to open back up completely. You will notice that for a couple hours to a day after the dip that the zoas might have yellow in thier mouths or maybe even have a slight tint of yellow on the zoa. This is nothing to worry about because it will go away and the zoas colors will come back. If you dont want to use furan you can try lugos or revieve, but in my experience furan 2 works the best although I have never tried lugos.

just give it some time, they probably need to re acclimate to your lights unless the star fish was digesting the zoas.

Lets just say the starfish was digesting them for arguments sake, is there a way to tell if that's what it was doing(Physical signs)? and if that was the case is there any hope?

My guess is the star fish just took a long nap if they were being digested they would of been liquidied, just give it some time.

From the pics the zoa doesnt look that bad. I would personally dip just to be safe but if you want to wait a couple days and monitor it then thats fine to! Just make sure the zoa doesnt look like its shedding its skin or begin to form a brown like jelly substance on the polyps. The thing with zoas is sometimes they like to be left alone and sometimes by the time we notice that they have an infection its too late.

I will definitely keep an eye on it. I'm not sure if its shedding skin or not. I thought I saw a little come off of it. What do you consider skin shedding? and thanks for all the info, I really appreciate it.

What I mean by shedding skin is it will almost look like a bubble is forming around the polyps. Its like a clear bubble that incases the zoa. Its hard to explain but if you look close you can tell.

I'll give it another day and if it doesn't open up when I come home from work tomorrow I'll probably dip it. I figure that will be a week since I last saw them open. Thanks for all the help guys.
