Called BRS and they're selling the non-Royal Exclusiv Alphas....Guess I missed the train. So now looks like I'm leaning towards the Elegance...
Ya don't listen to me. I'm an idiot and don't know nothin....Ask Sanh. ;)

I'm sure they will be great skimmers, but I wouldn't wanna be the one finding out. Ya know. I honestly would look into a Bubble King Super Marin, ATB, or try to find a used Vertex. They pop up all the time. The vertex is really cool, because if the motor block ever goes out, u can replace it with a Laguna 1500.

Good luck bro

That's why I said...ask Sanh.

Obviously Damian isn't trying to test out a new skimmer, he wants something proven. See, when u have deep pockets like Sanh, u can throw away $1000 on a skimmer if it ends up not working right. And the new Vertex Alphas aren't made in China, they're made in Germany still. Pshh noob

I talked to Jeremy from Premium Aquatics over my skimmer choices. He recommended a Bubble King Double Cone 180 as a perfect fit for my tank. Only problem is the price tag and the lack of upgradability for a new tank. But then again, who keeps the same skimmer in a large upgrade anyway. Still, $1,200 is a lot of money. He noted the neck size for the Alpha 200 may be a little big and I'd have problems with it.

Another funny thing, according to him is that the Vertex Alpha's are going to be manufactured in China and ASSEMBLED in Germany. So all the parts are Chinese made. Either way, I can't make any judgments and given his note on the neck size, I'm still reconsidering my options.

It's looking that way Mike. I feel that if I spend $1,200 on a skimmer, I should be able to use it on a larger tank later down the line. The BK Double Cone 180 is ideal for a fully stocked 180 and that's it.

Did you have any issues dialing it in? Or anything that I should be aware of?

No, no issues at all. It's very happy in about 7.5" of water. Part of me always wondered if the 8.5 deluxe would have been better because it's taller and more contact time.

WOW, that's a great deal. If you want a recirculating skimmer, this is the way to go.

Ive own an alpha 200(regret selling it) "with RE on lid" and im currently using the omega150. Build and quality practically identity the same. Although
Last I checked BRS apha cones were out of stock.. RE has a few new models of skimmers that resembles or indentical to the alpha cone. The lid wil probably only say "royal exclusive'
