I have one of those black barrels that was used for a water softener unit for residential homes and wanted to know if it is ok to use to mix saltwater in? I just want to make sure the plastic used is ok. Thanks in advance!

Here's a pic of what I'm talking about.

Should be ok. If it was already ring used as a water supply container. You can get more info if the container has a model or serial number. You can call the manufacture and ask directly. ;)

I'll check the bottom or around the barrel for any markings from the manufacturer and see if I can ask them. Thanks for the heads up. I really like the size cuz it's not too big and fits in my laundry room area(that's where by RODI unit is) perfectly so hopefully I can use it!

Thanks for the reply guys! That's a pretty cool barrel Gumbii! Seriously it is! Anyways I got the barrel from Ramzy. He's not using it anymore so I thought it would be perfect for my water changes. Although it's not as sturdy as the blue barrel drums but seems to hold water and keep it's shape. I really like it cuz of it's size. I guess i'll try using it for my next water change. :)

Kat,it should be safe.....gumbiis barrel is a lot more decorative and I know you love your decor items, don't know if it fits with your decor tho, maybe paint the wood pink and the metal rings blue or vise-versa ?
you should consider a trade with gumbii...I like his barrel better, they're used in the liqueur industry and we all know vodka is reef safe LOL
