I use the easier method: ECOFLOW and Power Queen battery. Totally they have about 1500wh, enough to run couple of my nero 5 for at least a day.

There are so many lithium batteries that run longer that Ecotech. You can find them on Amazon for a fraction of the price and a fraction of the size and weight.

when you open an ecotech, the battery is an electric scooter battery. And their lifespan is super short as they deteriorate at a faster rate than lithium batteries.

While you could go with lithium ion batteries from Amazon, the ecoflow battery packs use LiFePO4 which have longer lifespan and better thermal stability. I also really like the versatility and 20ms UPS response time.

So I was doing the 12 volt small heavy battery and the Tunze Safety Switch, I have had 3 of those swathes go bad. So for tow systems.
100 for the battery
70 dollar or so for the safety switch
X 2 = 340 dollars
On Black Friday I purchased a Jackery 1000 V2 for about 320 dollars, yes you can go much cheaper.
Now I can run both tanks with the Jackery, there is always somebody home here.
I also have 4 battery air pumps.

^^^^^ Have you ran a test to see how long the back up battery will last for say a return pump and heater application?

This will depend heavily on the power consumption of return pump and heater. Heaters use a tremendous amount of power and will chew through the battery quickly.

If you wanted to max out the time your tank could run without power, might be best to run only the essentials. Which in many in many cases, just involves oxygenating the water; which can be done with powerhead/wavemakers only. You could probably run the tank for many days just with the wavemakers alone. Corals should be okay so long as the temperature stays between roughly 70-80F.

Yeah, I wouldn't include heater as one of the must have during the blackout.

that’s what I was wondering also. I have a Varios 8 return pump how long would that last if it was the only thing plugged in?. Or we could say which is better to run…. Return pump or wavemakers?
